Event requirements

    "Practice and Track Day"

STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The Thursday Event is a TRACK DAY and OPEN PRACTICE EVENT. It is a pre-race event to the Chumpcar Event held Saturday and Sunday at Oregon Raceway Park. It is presented by and under the control of STAR Projects and all arbitrary and capricious enactments and rules made on the spot will be final.

You need not be entered in the Chumpcar Event participate in this track day and open practice.

Although we will identify inexperienced drivers with Day-Glo panels on front and back, Please be advised: For the track day and open practice of this event, entrant’s driving skills and qualifications have not been scrutinized, you may very well be on course with other drivers of marginal talent and dubious experience, drive courtesy and  defensively.

Rules for passing and general conduct of the day can be found in the RAT RACE Series tab under RULES AND SUCH on the www.starprojectsevents.com website. They will also be explained at the driver meeting at the beginning of the day. Attendance is mandatory for all drivers.

GENERAL RULES, GOOD ADVICE ETC.

(Most of mine, Some of the tracks).

  • All persons entering O.R.P. are required to sign a release and wear at all times the issued security wrist band. (Yes, on your wrist, either side, your choice).
  • For those that arrive after hours O.R.P.provides a large parking area East of the front gate.  (If you are sleeping on the ground, the gravel there is guaranteed to be as comfortable as the gravel inside the facility).
  • Although we review flags at the drivers meeting, you are expected to have a thorough understanding of what their meaning is and how they are displayed committed to memory BEFORE you get to the track (a primer is available by request).
  • The parking area along the pit paddock road is reserved for track day only entries. The  West side of the upper paddock for Chumpcar please (allows access to hot pits). Motor homes, guests, and non-essential trailers please use south parking area to leave asphalt for student’s cars and racing teams.
  • Hot pit space is limited. Get to know your neighbors and share pit and paddock space. We will do our best to group all multi-car teams and those sharing refueling / pit crews.
  • To provide room for necessary support equipment all non-essential vehicles may be required to move from the paddock areas. (Nobody wants to set up twice).
  • Don’t lock your car in a critical area and disappear, we will not be responsible for damage to vehicles that must be moved by fork lift, or other means.
  • All cars are subject to Tech inspection and will conform to regular and customary safety requirements for the type of event in which the car is normally entered. (ie: A track day sedan needs a good seat belt and helmet. A GT-1 car needs a Snell 2005 or better helmet, full fire suit, fuel cell, on board fire system, full roll cage stamped by the prevailing sanctioning body. etc.).  If you have any questions ask BEFORE you get to the track.
  • 92 octane unleaded non-ethanol fuel will be available on site from the track. It is $5.50 / gal. You may bring your own.
  • Most of the hot pits are on a slight incline; all cars must have at least one wheel chalked during driver changes and especially when fueling.
  • All fueling and practice fuel stops will be done engine off, with a fire extinguisher and person on duty whose sole job is to operate it.
  • Driver must be out of the car while fueling.
  • Any pit stop that requires repairs that will take more than 10 minutes to complete, or jacking the car more than one end of the vehicle per stop must be removed to the paddock.
  • All spills must be reported immediately to the track staff to avoid damage to the pavement.
  • Bring what you need. Grass Valley is a town of less than 200 people in a county of less than 1,800 people. (The nearest “full service” town is The Dalles 50, miles away).
  • Food vendors may be on site or you can order a box lunch in the morning and have it delivered to the track at noon for around $10.00.
  • There is no running water at the track.
  • Electrical hook-ups are not available (bring a generator if you need power).
  • O.R.P. is at 2,350 feet. It can get cool at night. The stars are beautiful. The wind can be very brisk, be sure to plan extra ways to tie down canopies and awnings.
  • O.R.P. is dog friendly. Pick up after them and keep them on a leash when the track is hot.
  • O.R.P. uses 100.1 FM to broadcast track announcements. (Bring your boom-box).
  • No open fires are allowed.
  • Please pick up all litter (cigarette butts, etc.) before leaving the track.
  • O.R.P. promotes good citizenship in Sherman County. Please watch your speed.
  • No use of alcohol or intoxicants of any kind are allowed until ALL on course activities are closed for the day.
  • Drivers / Team Captains are responsible for the behavior of their entire crew and guests. (See the rule above).

“STAR PROJECTS IS ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN….RIGHT AFTER SAFETY”.

Yours for the sport,

Bill Murray
