Street Survival Volunteer Sign-Up

Devens Airfield

About this event

Saturday Street Survival Volunteer sign-up:

The New England Region SCCA along with our partners, the Boston BMW CCA, NE-SVT, TC-USA, PCA-NER, PCA-NCR, BSCC, and RMC, invite you to be a Coach or Volunteer at our Tire Rack Street Survival School, to be held at Devens Airfield on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a "hands-on" driving experience in real-world situations! Students use their own cars to learn about handling limits and car control. The students will become more observant of the traffic situations they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving decisions themselves.

This event will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Moore Army Airfield at Devens (90 Fitchburg Rd., Ayer, MA 01434, US). For new TRSS instructors/coaches, please feel free to let us know if you have previous experience instructing at Tire Rack Street Survival Schools, performance driving events, car control clinics or autocrosses, (but it is not required). For additional information, please contact Jerry Papenhausen at grpapenhausen@yahoo.com or 617-816-1551.

Cost to register:  $0.00

Location: Moore Airfield, Ayer Ma. (The entrance is at 90 Fitchburg Rd. Ayer, Ma)

Event Requirements

In-car coaches will be teaching young drivers some of the car control skills you have acquired over the years, in a one-on-one environment. All instructors are required to have completed, at some point prior to the event, the short "Tire Rack Street Survival Training for Coaches" course at...

http://streetsurvival.org/schools/become-a-coach/

If you've already completed this online course prior to a past event, you DON'T need to complete it again, although it's a good refresher in preparation for your role at the event. This course and your previous experience as a member of the local amateur motorsports community will together qualify you to safely manage a student from the passenger seat.

If you prefer not to take the online course or otherwise prefer not to be an in-car coach, we also have plenty of need for other volunteer positions to help run the event. In addition to coaches, we will need Safety Stewards, Food Runners/Handlers, Cone Shaggers, and other general Gofer Duties.

The New England Region Sports Car Club of America and the entire New England Autocross Community are grateful for your time and volunteer participation in our charitable, non-profit event. We can make a difference in the emergency avoidance driving skills of the teenagers that participate, and help make them safer and more competent drivers for the rest of their lives.
