RMM WINTER DRIVING CLINIC

$500 + GST

Welcome to RMM’s Winter Driving Clinic. This half-day clinic will teach enhanced winter driving techniques in a safe and controlled environment that you can use on everyday roads. RMM’s professional instructors will guide you through ABS braking, accident avoidance, skid recovery, and traction anticipation exercises.

 

The clinic consists of a short in-class session with over 3 hours of in-car driving exercises at the RMM circuit. Through the completion of this clinic, drivers can expect to feel more confident in their winter driving abilities and will take-away an improved knowledge of winter driving.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Participants are required to bring their own personal vehicle.
  • Permitted vehicles can be any FWD (front wheel drive), AWD (all-wheel drive), or RWD (rear wheel drive) vehicle that is able to be registered for public road use.
  • Vehicles must be equipped with M+S (mud and snow), 3PMSF (3 peak mountain snowflake), or true winter tires fitted to all 4 wheels.
  • Tires with steel studs and summer tires are NOT permitted.
  • It is recommended that vehicles have a minimum of 5 inches of ground clearance to avoid any possible undercarriage damage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I wear?

Bring indoor and outdoor winter clothing according to the temperature that day. Expect to be outdoors for up to 20 minutes at a time. Expect to be inside your vehicle, or inside the heated classroom for the remainder of the clinic. Do not wear large winter boots, but rather warm hiking boots, or similar.

 

Can I bring my 4x4 truck/SUV?

Yes, any vehicle is permitted, as long as it has the appropriate tires fitted. (M+S, 3PMSF, or Winter rated)

 

Can I bring my front wheel drive small passenger car?

Yes, any vehicle is permitted, as long as it has the appropriate tires fitted. (M+S, 3PMSF, or Winter rated)

 

Do I need to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle?

No, any vehicle is permitted, as long as it has the appropriate tires fitted. (M+S, 3PMSF, or Winter Rated)

 

Do I require a tire designed for winter driving?

You must have one of the following types of tires to participate:

  • All-season M+S (mud and snow)
  • Snow (3 peak mountain snowflake)
  • A tire designated as a winter tire.
  • You cannot use summer tires for this clinic.
  • Steel-studded tires are not permitted for this clinic as they will damage the asphalt surface.

 

Is this an ice racing school?

No, the winter driving clinic is 100% developed for normal street/highway traffic winter driving techniques. There is no aspect of this clinic that teaches racing.

 

Why must my vehicle have minimum 5 inches of ground clearance?

The surface of the road will mimic normal winter conditions with snow and ice. Lower than 5 inches of ground clearance will possibly result in damage to the front/underside of your vehicle.

 

Can I bring a guest or passenger to sit with me during the exercises?

No, the clinic is designed for single occupants in vehicles only.

 

Can I share a car with my friend or family member?

No, each participant must have their own vehicle.

 

Does my vehicle need to have ABS and Traction Control?

No, your vehicle does not require these functions. However, it is highly recommended.

 

Is the winter driving clinic weather permitting?

Yes, the event requires a sufficient amount of snow coverage. The event will NOT continue in the case of weather dropping below -30C.

What happens if there isn’t enough snow?

In the event that the weather is either warmer than anticipated, and/or there is not enough snow coverage, the clinic will be re-scheduled for a later date. Additionally, should the weather be extremely cold (below -30C), the event will be re-scheduled for a later date.

 

Do I need to have previous winter driving experience to join the event?

No, this event is designed for both brand new and seasoned drivers alike. Participants must hold a valid driver’s license.

 

Do I need to bring a helmet?

No, helmets will not be required for this event.
