RMM Race License Course

Rocky Mountain Motorsports

About this event

RMM Members Race License Course
Qualifications for- WCMA Regional Novice Racing License

June 8th, 2024
9am-6pm
$650 + GST

RMM would like to offer the opportunity for its members to participate in a single day race license course.

The majority of the course will be focused on racing rules and regulations, race weekend procedures, equipment requirements, and what to expect if you want to go wheel to wheel competitive racing.

This is not a performance driving course designed to teach you how to drive faster, but rather teach you the requirements for competitive racing.

Participants will receive an extensive amount of in-class traning in conjunction with brief on track exercises. 4 hours in-class training

To maintain a high level of safety for all participants, the on-track portion of this course will be heavily controlled to eliminate the risk of incidents.

This members only race license course will be put on by RMM in collaboration with ARCA. (Alberta Race Car Association)

Upon completion of this course, and passing the written exam, members will have the ability to apply for a Novice level regional road racing license through the WCMA. (Western Canadian Motorsports Association)

This course is not just for members who want to go racing immediately, but is open to any member that is curious about what wheel to wheel racing requires.

As we grow the racing activities at RMM, having a novice racing license will allow you the ability to join local races throughout the year if the opportunity comes up.

A Novice Racing License is a higher rated license in comparison to a Time Attack License.  If you are planning to take part in any Time Attack events at RMM this season, the novice racing license will more than qualify you for time attack events.

The 'RMM Race License Course' is valid for 2 years from the date of completion when applying for a Novice Racing License.

Event requirements

This course will be available to all RMM members who have participated in 5 or more observed member lapping days at RMM. (subject to approval)
Participants will NOT need to have a dedicated race car for this course.
Participants will be permitted to bring their regular street car that they normally use for member lapping. (Convertibles MUST have structural rollover protection)
Turn 17 Mustang rentals are available for this course.
(RMM Group 3 open passing equipment regulations will NOT be in effect)
There will NOT be open passing sessions, so participants can feel confident that the risk of having an incident with another driver will be the same as during member lapping days (very low).

This course requires the use of RMM supplied handheld radios to communicate with the drivers. Any vehicle that is open top, or excessively loud inside the cockpit will need to make prior arrangements with RMM Staff to ensure proper communication will be possible during the course.

Completion of this course does not guarantee the participant will be granted a WCMA competition racing license. Being granted a novice racing license is up to the discretion of the WCMA and Chief Instructors.

Lunch is provided for this course. (please indicate any allergies during registration process)
Please plan accordingly for any additional snacks and drinks you may need, as the intensity/length of the course will be more than you may be used to.
The course will finish at 6pm.

T17 Rental Insurance:
Our cars are insured for the road and track, but like with any normal car insurance, there is an excess that you are liable for before the insurance takes over. So, in other words: you pay for the damage you cause to the car (Up to a maximum). This financial risk is normal in any form of motorsport, and while unavoidable, it is also part of the thrill of driving on track. However, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk, which are covered below.
• The basic excess (deductible) is up to a maximum of $45,000.
• This excess can be reduced to $5,000.00 with the optional track insurance package for $375.00.

How can I reduce my risk on track?
There are a few important steps you can take to reduce your risk of an accident on track:
• Your attitude and approach to driving the track. You should always drive carefully, within your limits, and drive defensively around other cars on the circuit. Watch what is going on around you at all times – but also concentrate on what you’re doing! Driving the circuit simply isn’t like a video game (this mistake is more common than you think!), and listen to our recommendations and advice. It takes hundreds of laps before you become familiar with the circuit, so don’t believe you can shortcut this and race on your first laps!
• Listen to your Instructor. RMM instructors are experiences professionals that will allow you to get the most out of your track experience.
• Excess buydown. There are options for reducing your excess (or deductible/liability) for the maximum you owe in the case of an accident.
