Meet your local husband and wife team of winemakers, Dirk and Michelle Uys. In 2003 their family emigrated from South Africa and made the United States their home. They have since been residents of Temecula and consider themselves very fortunate to be able to live in the heart of the beautiful Wine Country. They took their passion for wine to another level when they planted a vineyard and started to make wines that reflect their South African heritage and European palate.

The intent of UYS is to remain small to always be able to be super attentive to each barrel. They strive to consistently produce high-quality natural wines with no additives, and minimal intervention in both the vineyard and cellar. Winemaking is a way of life for their family and as such they manage their own vineyard and every step of the winemaking process. The final product should always express a sense of place or origin, typical of where it was grown. They believe each bottle of UYS wine should provide a glimpse into the soul of mother earth and as artisans they will continue to pursue the soul of wine and make uniquely individual wines for you to enjoy.

What is a garagiste, you may ask? A garagiste is a French term to describe independent, artisan winemakers crafting small batches of wine. These wines are crafted by experienced winemakers who are putting their hearts and souls into each bottle made. Essentially everything from start to finish is a labor of love.

NOTE: For those who wish to take a fun/scenic route to the winery, Richard will be leading a tour.  Simply meetup at BJs around 1:15 (leave at 1:30) and we’ll drive around Diamond lake and come back through the wine country. Otherwise, we will see you there, however you get there!
