PIR Volunteer Training-Flags and Comm. (Sat. 28th)

Portland Int'l Raceway

About this event

This class provides an overview of racing communications and flagging procedures used during on-track operations at Portland International Raceway (PIR). The course is designed to give participants a solid foundation in effective communication and consistent flagging practices to support safe and efficient race control.

The communications portion of the class covers the different communication systems used at PIR, including radios and track communication protocols. Participants will learn proper radio etiquette, call structure, terminology, and how to make clear, concise calls to Race Control and other track personnel during on-track incidents and changing track conditions.

The flagging portion of the class reviews the flags used in racing and their meanings, with emphasis on proper display, positioning, and timing. The course also covers key differences in flagging regulations and procedures used by ICSCC, SCCA, and SOVREN, as well as standard hand signals used by corner workers to communicate with drivers and other track personnel.

This class is intended for corner workers, safety team members, and other track operations personnel who support racing activities at PIR.
