DRIVERS MEETING
Hey everyone! Thanks for being a part of this. The idea here is to bring road racing back to NYR SCCA, so we want it to feel as real as possible - with nearby tracks and spec cars.
This Friday we’ll be racing at Waktins Glen
We will all drive the same Mazda MX-5 Cup car with a locked baseline setup. The MX-5 Cup car is a slap-stick 6-speed sequential gearbox. Skip rigs will mirror this, home drivers are free to use paddles if your rig doesn’t have any other option.
Vehicle damage will be turned off, weather will be locked on sunny + midday. iRacing will police track limits, a Skip Barber employee will be our steward for contact for driving standards issues.
The room and trackside cameras will be streamed on Skip Barber’s YouTube channel. I’ll drop the link in the group chat when I get it.
Skip Barber also has a discord for live chat– again, link to follow. Not mandatory to be on the chat but make sure to stay informed with this WhatsApp group.
Please make sure your iRacing and WhatsApp accounts use your full name so we know who’s who.
We will be running TWO heats.
•Practice
There will be 2x 30-minute practice sessions. Drivers may only drive in one session. They aren’t mandatory sessions but laptimes will seed you into PRO (faster half) or CLUB (slower half) group, with consideration made to keep all 8 Skip Barber rigs full.
•Qualifying
Please be in your seat (“grid”) and ready at 5 minutes to green. All drivers will get 30 minutes to set their best lap time for starting grid placement. PRO group will qualify first. I’d encourage the CLUB group drivers to spectate this session and learn from PRO group. Stay in your seat at the end of Quali — it’ll slide right into the race. CLUB group qualifying will follow the PRO race.
•Race
Races will be 30 minute sprint races. Race starts will be a rolling start in 2x2 formation. There will be no need for fuel or tire pit stops. The PRO race will be first, followed by the CLUB race.
CLUB and PRO drivers will be combined in the overall winter long championship. PRO winner will earn 50 points with a graduated point schedule all the way to P20 with 1 point. CLUB group will get half points. This will place the club winner around P5 overall. Should be a pretty equitable system.
Again, thanks everyone for being a part of this. Should be a really cool winter.
