Northeast GT Round 2 | Day 1 | Practice & School

Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park

About this event

Welcome to Real Clean Racing with Northeast GT

Northeast GT 2024 Event Calendar

Northeast GT stands for Northeast Grassroots Touring (NEGT), and Northeast GT exists to bring real, clean racing to the road racing circuits of New England and the Northeast. NEGT presents the Northeast GT Cup a strictly no-contact racing championship.

Round 2 at Thompson Speedway features Open Practice as well as GT Race School on Day 1. Spectators are welcome. Free Camping for the weekend from Thursday night until Monday morning. Limited electric hook-up is available. Day 2 Race Day and Day 3 Race Day are also available.

Open Practice:

Features 4 x 30min timed open passing sessions for TWO (2) HOURS OF SEAT TIME! Northeast GT Cup vehicles will be divided into two run groups: “Sunday” and “GTSU”. Sunday will be dedicated to Sunday Cup vehicles only. GTSU will include GT Cup, GTS Cup, Super Cup, and Super Unlimited vehicles.

For open practice, vehicles may be shared between any number of registered drivers, who at minimum must meet GT Race School entry requirements (racing license or wheel-to-wheel experience not required). Vehicle requirements are also relaxed for open practice sessions, though all vehicles still must meet track day tech requirements.

GT Race School:

For new, returning, or current racers, the GT Race School offers a racing curriculum that spans the classroom, paddock/pit-lane, and on-track sessions with the purpose of guiding drivers towards a clean race. Advanced drivers who don't have racing credentials or experience may participate in the GT Race School and race in the Northeast GT Cup after successful completion of the race school. Any licensed and/or experienced Northeast GT Cup eligible driver looking to brush up on their skills, or warm-up for the race weekend, may sign-up to attend the GT Race School on-track sessions.

For even more seat time, GT Race School drivers can expect to receive multiple classroom, paddock/pit lane, and up to 6 x 30min on-track sessions, including a graduation race:

  • On-track sessionsGet up to speed in a controlled, progressive manner, when transitioning from track days to wheel-to-wheel racing. Begin with open passing sessions, including passing exercises, starts & restarts, and finish with a practice graduation race.
  • Paddock/pit-lane sessionsLearn about pit lane and fuel safety, practice vehicle exits, and prepare for upcoming on-track sessions.
  • ClassroomLearn slow to go fast. Classroom sessions throughout the day emphasize wheel-to-wheel essentials, such as mirrors and managing nearby traffic, passing and defending craft and strategies, Northeast GT racing flags and commands, and tips to manage safety and risk.

Up to two (2) drivers are allowed to share a vehicle for a GT Race School. All vehicles participating in GT Race School sessions must be prepared for wheel-to-wheel racing. Vehicles may be registered for both open practice and GT Race School sessions.

Event requirements

Northeast GT Vehicle Checklist – all vehicles participating in Northeast GT Cup sessions, including the GT Race School, must meet vehicle requirements for wheel-to-wheel competition, including a roll cage (1.75"x0.120" tubing, or by exception only). Vehicle Checklist form submission, along with NEGT official vehicle inspection, will be required annually.

Northeast GT Driver & Crew Gear Self-Tech – all drivers, and all crew involved with fueling, must have required safety gear in order to participate in Northeast GT wheel-to-wheel sessions. Driver & Crew Gear Self-Tech, along with NEGT official helmet inspection, will be required annually.

Northeast GT Driver Attestation – all drivers participating in the Northeast GT Cup (not GT Race School) must have either a racing license and/or prior wheel-to-wheel experience. Driver Attestation form will be required annually. Proof of racing license and/or race experience to be requested.

Northeast GT Cup Vehicle Classification – all vehicles participating in Northeast GT Cup race days will be required to submit a NEGT Cup Classification Form for each event. The calculator asks 13 questions and outputs the minimum competition weight required to legally compete in Northeast GT's three production-based classes: Super Cup, GT Cup, and Sunday Cup.

SOUND LIMIT : All cars must be muffled. If the track considers your car to be too loud, you will be given a warning and asked to make physical changes to your exhaust. This mostly applies to straight-piped, naturally aspirated cars. Silencer inserts can be purchased here.
