Mojave Magnum #5

Mojave Air and Space Port

About this event

MKM Racing Promotions announces the 5th running of the Mojave Magnum, October 8-9, 2016!

Join the fun! See how fast your car or bike can go in a mile and a half from a standing start!

10/7/16 - Entries for this event are now closed.

Please read everything here carefully - several things have changed since April!

New no-public-spectator policy: The airport is now requiring that our events be closed to the general public.  Entry into the event area will be restricted to racers and a few designated crew/family/guests; MKM event staff; official and safety personnel; approved vendors; and prequalified media.  We're sorry if this causes a problem for you but we have no say in the matter.   Please DO NOT contact the airport and complain about this!  It will only make matters worse.

Concurrent with this new policy, we will no longer have unlimited free admission.  Each entry into the event will include at no charge, the rights to 1 gate-entry pass (wristband) for the racer, plus 4 more for adult crew/family/guests. If you need more adult gate passes than that for extra crew/family/guests, a limited number (up to 5 more) can be purchased, by the driver/rider only, for $20 each (in advance, or at the event).  (Kids 17 and under can get special free bands that don't count against the quota, but they still must be family or guests of a racer.)  All people signing waivers to get in the gate must first be verified as "belonging" to a race team. To avoid delays, each racer is required to supply the names of all adults who will be entering the event with them, in advance.  A person must be on this list of names to be able to sign waivers, claim a wristband, and get into the gate. Each wristband must be claimed (at the registration room or at the gate) by its wearer only, in person.  There are no refunds for unused wristbands that are not picked up.  Wristbands and wristband rights cannot be sold, given away, loaned or transferred to someone else.  Abuse of these rules will not be tolerated.  All vehicles entering the gate are subject to search.

One-day Entries:

NEW POLICY - We are capping one-day entries at 30 40 persons or less each day.  After that number is reached, one-day entries will be wait-listed.

Standard 1-day Entry Package for Saturday or Sunday, covers one vehicle plus one driver or rider, includes rights to 1 racer gate pass and 4 adult gate passes, and one Speed Certificate - $339

Fee to enter an extra driver or rider (without a vehicle) for Saturday or Sunday - $279 (does not have to be assigned to any particular vehicle; includes rights to 1 racer gate pass and 4 adult gate passes, and one speed certificate)

(Helpful Hint: If two racers are sharing one vehicle, one driving on Saturday only and the other one driving on Sunday only, you don't need to pay for the vehicle twice, because one vehicle inspection is good for the whole weekend!  Enter yourselves as one Saturday package plus one Sunday extra driver.)

Extra Vehicle Add-on:

Fee to add on a second vehicle (only the vehicle, no driver) to any package entry, either one or two day  - $119 - limited to one extra vehicle per entry package - must be the same vehicle type (bike or car).  Does not include any gate passes, t-shirts or speed certificates.

Effective immediately, the ONLY way to enter the event is here, online.  We no longer accept or process telephoned or paper-based entries.  We will not accept any "walk-in" or in-person entries, nor will we accept entries or add-ons at the track.

All entrants are required to be entered here online, no later than 8 PM PDT the day before they race.  All Rookies (those who have never run with us at Mojave) are required to be entered online and paid no later than 8 PM PDT the day before their first run, and they must be at the airport no later than 7 AM on their first race day.

A free Event T-shirt is only included with two-day entries. You don't get one with one-day entries or extra vehicle add-ons.  You can pre-order extra event T-shirts as part of the entry process.

If one person intends to both drive a car and ride a bike in this event, that is a special situation that needs to be handled manually. Please call us at 702-614-6108 and we'll be happy to take care of it for you. There will be a small extra fee involved.

If we are not sold out, it is possible to upgrade your one-day entry to two days. Just call us, we will make the change and you will simply pay the difference in price.  This can also be done at registration at the hotel, again assuming we're not sold out.  THIS CANNOT BE DONE ONLINE - you must call us.

There is a limit of 125 total competitors for each day at this event. This number now includes a cap of 30 40 one-day racers on each day. (Note that these limits are measured as the number of people, not the number of vehicles.  If you have any intent to add on an extra person to share your ride, do it sooner rather than later, because the ability to do that will be LOST if we sell out, which is likely.)

All runs at this event will be for the full 1.5 miles. There will be intermediate speed traps at the 0.5 and 1.0-mile marks, with all three speeds printed on the slips.

Access to the track is on a first come, first served basis.  We explicitly DO NOT guarantee that any entrant will get to do any specific number of runs, or any runs at all.  Factors such as number of entries, entrant time of arrival, aircraft operations, weather, and equipment malfunction can all have an effect.  We estimate that each entrant should be able to get in at least two runs each day IF they are ready to go first thing each morning.  Most will probably be able to do more than that. WARNING: If you are a one-day entrant (particularly Saturday) and you do not plan to show up at Mojave until that morning at the track, you will not get as many runs as you would have if you had arrived and gone through check-in and tech the day before.  Get to the track early!

Airport security requires that we enforce the following restrictions:  NO DRONES or anything else that flies; NO "HOVERBOARDS" or skateboards; NO ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION inside the gate, this is a dry event; NO WEAPONS, FIREWORKS or OPEN FLAMES; All pets and service animals must be leashed or restrained at ALL TIMES; children under 18 must be adult-supervised at all times.

Event requirements

Entry is limited to 125 total participants (persons, not vehicles!) each day, with an included cap of 40 "one-day" participants on each day.  Open to both cars and motorcycles. Open only to licensed drivers/riders 18 years of age or older (sorry, we cannot allow minor drivers or riders).  Motorcycle riders must have a motorcycle endorsement on their driver's license. Graduated speed limits apply to each entry, based on safety equipment, tire ratings, and prior racing experience.  Basic safety equipment (belts, helmet, proper clothing, etc.) is required.  3-point OEM-type seat belts are the minimum for cars. For cars, speeds above 180 MPH require the driver to wear a racing firesuit, racing gloves/socks/shoes and a racing helmet, and the car must have racing harnesses and a roll bar unless exempt.  All motorcycle riders must wear a minimum of full leathers/boots/gloves and a full face helmet with face shield. Helmets that are only rated DOT, with no other rating, are not allowed. Snell-rated helmets older than SA2005 and M2005 are not allowed. Snell K (kart) helmets not allowed.  All vehicles must meet our safety standards and be in good condition. Tires must be at least "S" speed rated (hopefully much higher, because your speed limit depends on it!) and manufactured in 2010 or later (i.e., the 4-digit sidewall date code must end in 10 or higher).  Other restrictions may apply.  See the FAQ, Car and Bike Preparation Guides, and Rule Book on our web site for details.
