Legends of the Autobahn and Audi West Coast Meet

Come join your fellow German Automotive Enthusiasts! Plan to be a part of the Legends of the Autobahn auto show and Audi Club West Coast Meet on August 15, 2014.  The Golden Gate Chapter is organizing Audi’s participation at this year’s edition of a very popular event held annually during the Monterey Classic Car week. Expect to see and enjoy the nearly 500 cars that frequent this unique event.  The cars in attendance come from far & wide, and belong to the members of the local and national Chapters of the Audi, BMW, and Mercedes Benz car clubs.

Each of these Clubs wish to welcome the owners of other fine German Marques to Legends of the Autobahn, with the specific inclusion of an "Open Class" for any German marque (e.g. Porsche, VW, Opel, Bitter, et al).   Please go to the the Legends of the Autobahn website(www.legendsoftheautobahn.org) to obtain the registration link for "Other German Cars".  However, if you wish to enter an older Porsche in the Judged Car competition, we invite you to do so in Audi's 4-Rings Historic Class.  Therefore, if you are an Audi Driver, who wished to join the general corral or one of the Audi Judged Car classes, or an older Porsche owner, who wishes to enter the 4-rings Historic Judged Car class, continue on and register here.

Additionally, we are very pleased to report that this 2014 event has found a new, and very special home!  Prepare to enjoy an exclusive country club experience at the NICKLAUS CLUB - MONTEREY, (formerly the Pasadera Country Club) conveniently adjacent to the famed Laguna Seca Raceway and east of the Laguna Seca Golf Course. The address of the Nicklaus Club - Monterey is 100 Pasadera Drive, Monterey, California.  Audi owners will have the opportunity to join with the other great German marques on the greens and fairways of this dramatic and beautiful park-like setting.  We invite you to be a part of the Monterey Historics Clasic Car Week by joining this remarkable assembly. Non-Participant, spectator admission is free, and there will be adequate on-site parking a short walk away. 

Audi of American continues to support Legends with the display of a special competition car.  This year we will have the World Challange series GT winning car of  2003.  GMG will also be displaying two of their R8 LMS that are currently being raced.  Our members also  have many rare and extraordinary cars that most of us rarely see up close.  This event is not to be missed!

There are two ways to participate. 

One: display your car with the general, mixed-marque corral on the in-close fairways;

Two: enter and present your car within the “Judged Car” display area on the greens and the fairways adjacent to the Clubhouse.   

We don’t want to limit your thinking by calling this event a "Concours" since most of our cars are driven daily. In any case, the Judges for the Audi Display will be members of our Club, so a fun, low-key event is assured.  General Car corral registration is $40.  The “Judged Car” registration is $75. We will award “Judged Car” trophies three deep in the following classes: Historic Four Rings, Sports - Competition & Modified, Audi Marque, and Ur-Quattro. We will enlist the aid of qualified Judges to help us with interpreting the scores for your car(s).  Please let us know if you are interested in helping with this good work.  Registration closes on August 9th, however, we had to close registration early last year because we reached the maximum number of cars allowed on the field.  So, avoid disappointment and register early.  This year we are also welcoming air-cooled Porsches to the 4-rings Historic Class.

*In addtion, we reserve the right to move cars into different classes if there are not enough qualified entries to fill a class. We will let you know if changes are to be anticipated. We will publish the "Judged Car" rules on our Audi Club website. As this is our second year of participation in the Judged portion of this event, we are pleased to have received your encouragement to continue, and promise to keep it fun, and not too serious.  

Adding to your day's enjoyment, there will be food, beverages, and displayed auto regalia available in a festival-like atmosphere within a beautiful setting.  Because of the new location inland, we are expecting fog-free weather combined with the rich in the festival of sounds emanating from the adjacent Laguna Seca Raceway.  As in all Golden Gate chapter events, all entered cars will receive some special Audi Club SWAG. 

As in prior years, we are offering the special Legends of the Autobahn golf shirts.  This year's shirt will be white with the Legends of the Autobahn logo on the upper left side of the shirt.  The available for pre-order at $40 for nearly all sizes, and $45 for 2XL & 3XL. 

There are several meal options available when purchased in advance.  A breakfast buffet including: pastries, yogurt, fruit juice, coffee, and Tea is $14.00.  There are two lunch options.  The Legends Luncheon, at $29.75, offeres many choices including assorted roast beef and turkey roll-ups, hamburger, cole slaw, chips, cookies, and soft drinks.  The Legends VIP Luncheon, at $49.75, will be held in the clubhouse. The VIP Luncheon offers many choices of grilled kebobs of chicken and vegies, tri-tip, wild rice salad, mediterranean salad of marinated cucumbers,  brownies, fruit tarts, and soft drink. Participants can also bring a picnic lunch.  We encourage particupants to bring chairs and perhapse a small umbrella.   There may be some slight menu changes.  If so, we will post it on our website.

We are also looking for volunteers, both to contribute their expertise as judges and for general assistance. Most volunteer work will be done in the beginning of the event so there will still be time for plenty of viewing.  Volunteers will receive the buffet breakfast at no-charge, with our compliments, for their well-appreciated efforts. 

We plan to have a number of interesting Audi models on display, both new and old.  Audi AG and Audi of America have made wonderful, historical placements at the prior two Legends Events.  We look forward to announcing their plans to display several new and special cars for us to see.  Of course most of the cars at the show are our personal vehicles, ones that we all know and love.  We are encouraging all area Audi owners to come, join us in the prideful display their car(s), while enjoying the comraderie of other Audi owners on the grass at this all day, family friendly car show and picnic-like event.  To find out more about the history of this event, please visit the main event website http://www.legendsoftheautobahn.org.

Food & Beverage.

    Breakfast: Breakfast Buffet is $14.00, and must be purchased in advance. It includes choices of Assorted muffins, pastries, and bagels.  Also includes an assortment of flavored cream cheeses, yogurt, fruit, assorted fruit juices, coffee and tea.     

Lunch Buffet: Lunch Buffet is $29.75 and must be purchased in advance.  Lunch buffet includes choices of roast beef and turkey roll-up, the "Pasadera Burger", Cole Slaw, Chips,  assorted cookies, and soft drinks or Juices. 

VIP Clubhouse Luncheon:   Buffet luncheon is $49.75 and must be purchased in advance.  This quality, sit down lunch includes choices of a variety of Roasted Veggies & Chicken Kebobs, sliced Tri-Tip, Wild Rice Salad, Mediterranean Salad of marinated cucumbers, Dessert Brownies and Fruit Tarts, and soft drinks or juices.

Aside from any other purchase you might make at this event, the Audi Club will provide you with a special Audi Club gift for this event.  Special Legends of the Autobahn golf shirts, in White, are also available for purchase in advance during Registration, or in limited quantities at the event.  Shirts in all sizes are $40 to $45.

Other things to do while you're in the Monterey area:

In addition to the Legends of the Autobahn event, there are many things to see and do in the area during the “Pebble Beach Concours Weekend”. For example, if there is sufficent interest, the Golden Gate Chapter is planning to attend the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion historic car races on August 16 and 17.  There may also be a group going to the Pebble Beach Concours.  We encourage everyone to sample the large variety of auto related events all over the Monterey Peninsula.  It is common to see cars that are rarely publicized in magazines driving though the streets of Monterey, or parked on Ocean Avenue in Carmel.   People come from all over the world to participate, see and be seen, at the plethora of local events. They come to take in the thick atmosphere of auto exotica that permeates the area streets.
