Growing up in Pasadena Jim was immersed in Southern California’s car culture, he raced a home-built Ford roadster.  From his ‘Hot Rod’ roots, he founded ‘The Beach Boys,’ a famous 1960’s drag racing team.  Jim moved into road racing with Dan Gurney’s All-American Racers; he had tremendous success racing Porsche 911s before transitioning to the formidable 935 in IMSA.  At Le Mans in 1978 he won the Group 5 class for Kremer Racing in a Porsche 935, in 1982 he won the Porsche 924 GTR class on street tires.  In 1982 Le Mans was a clean sweep for Porsche, securing first place overall and in every class.  Other wins were at Mid-Ohio in 1978, Riverside in 1981, and the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1989.  Jim was instrumental in the development of the carbon-fiber-bodied Porsche 962.  After retiring from IMSA competition, Jim helped establish Clienti Ferrari, where customers race Formula One Ferrari’s.  He also set several records on the Bonneville Salt Flats and was a very successful F1 vintage racer.
