Drive In Rally

Gainesville, GA

About this event

It's going to be a lovely day for a drive through the mountains and a movie.

We'll start in Gainesville, Georgia, and then make a winding 100 mile drive up into the North Georgia mountains ending at the Tiger Drive In where we'll tell lies, collect awards and watch a movie. Along the way, you'll have about a dozen questions to answer and several DIY (Do It Yourself) Checkpoints where you'll have to record your perfect arrival time. You can run the route at the assigned speeds (always at or below the posted speed limits) or break out a calculator and do the math for each DIY segment.

Scoring:

  • Each incorrect answer: 15 points
  • Each hundredth of a minute early or late at a checkpoint: 1 point
  • Maximum score at a checkpoint or a missed checkpoint: 50 points

Rallying is a precision sport and lowest score wins. A RoadRally is not a race: competitors will never need to exceed the posted speed limit. This event falls under the Sports Car Club of America's GTA (Games, Tour, Adventure) format. Everything you need to know will be explained in the General Instructions and during a brief rally school before the event starts.

The official start location will be announced no later than Monday, July 30, but will be in Gainesville. The General Instructions will be emailed to all registered teams on that day, as well. Registration fee is $45 for SCCA members and $50 for non-members and that covers the movie admission for two people. (If you have more people in your car, an additional ticket can be purchased on the day of the rally.) A limited number of walk-up registrations will be available.

This rally will will start in the early afternoon, plan on being in Gainesville around 2 p.m.

For questions or information on how to register, contact Rallymaster Mark Johnson at rallygeorgia@gmail.com or visit the Atlanta Region’s web site at AtlantaSCCA.org.

UPDATE – July 29, 2018: The General Instructions are now available
