DogTags and Green Flags 2024

NJMP Thunderbolt

About this event

In 2023 the inaugural The DogTags Green Flags event successfully raised over 5k for the Athletes with Disabilities Network, Northeast Chapter. This year, in conjunction with Liam Dwyer, NASA, New Jersey Motorsports Park, Elite Auto Service, Hooked on Driving Northeast, and VAC Motorsports we are hosting a track day fundraiser at NJMP Thunderbolt (8000 Dividing Creek Rd, Millville, NJ 08332) to raise money for Homes for Our Troops (HFOT)

HFOT is a 501-3c charity that builds 100% handicap accessible homes, mortgage free, for our nation’s seriously wounded combat veterans. The homes include wider doorways, lower counter tops, shower room with built-in bench, higher toilets, grab bars in both the showers and toilet areas, roll under vanity and countertop areas and a wrap-around sidewalk that allows accessibility to access all areas of the lawn.

Liam received an HFOT home in August of 2020. The adaptations improved his quality of life in ways he never expected: mobility, cooking, eating, and cleaning. His wife can leave for a few hours knowing he is in a safe environment where he can comfortably and safely function. Plus, being mortgage free, Liam and his wife have been able to start saving money for their newborn son’s college education.

About Liam

Liam served in the Marine Corps from 2000 to 2015. During that time, he was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

In May of 2011 Liam stepped on a bomb in Afghanistan which immediately blew off his left leg above the knee and severely injuring his right leg and arm. Liam would spend 4 years at Walter Reed National Military Hospital going through 50+ surgeries and thousands of hours of rehab.

While at Walter Reed, Liam taught himself how to drive a manual transmission while wearing a prosthesis, something he was told he would never be able to do.

Liam began racing in 2013 with NASA Northeast and earned an opportunity to go pro racing in 2014 racing in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. He was fortunate enough to win a couple of races (Lime Rock and Laguna Seca) and earn nearly a-dozen podiums.

Our goal is to race $20,000 for Homes for Our Troops. This money will be given directly to them through their channels.
