About this event
"Racing For ALS is about more than just fast cars-It’s about speeding to a cure for ALS!” - David Lloyd, Jr.
This event is a 2 day event focused on fundraising for our "Triple Target Fund". This HPDE style event is different from your usual track weekend. Drivers have the opportunity to fundraise their entry fee. What this means: drivers, once approved, will be able to fundraise via our Fundraising page to cover the full cost of their entry fee. This fundraising opportunity not only encourages donations but helps spread awareness of what our program does. All donations go towards our "Triple Target Fund", this fund helps patients battling ALS on 3 fronts; ALS TDI, Duke Neurology, and our Grant Program.
** 12-29-25 - As of today, Dave’s Race 8 will be a Proceeds Race, meaning that all money raised over and above the expenses of putting on the event will go to our Triple Target Fund. We will continue to seek out sponsors to help offset the cost of the event, but at this time it is a Proceeds Race.
-
ON-TRACK Track Day/Event, drivers will have the opportunity to experience the course once chosen as one of Car and Driver Magazine’s top six road courses Virginia International Raceway. ·The Uphill Esses and sharp elevation changes not only make it a fan and driver favorite but have also established it as a prominent testing facility for the automotive industry.
-
OFF-TRACK: All participants will be provided with a fun evening of BBQ, silent/live auction and entertainment.
-

Event requirements
- The Intermediate Group is Point-By-Passing anywhere on the track, hence the need for Intermediate level drivers with the correct level of awareness. (Please note - this is *not* a Novice group - If you are a novice, or aren't comfortable passing in corners, please contact us prior to registration so that we can help you!)
- The Advanced Groups are open passing with a point-by recommended/preferred but not required, so these groups are reserved for seasoned drivers with sufficient experience and awareness of the other cars on track.
- We feel that open passing is a safer way for Advanced Groups to run, as all the person being passed has to do is hold the main drive line/crack the throttle a bit, and the passing car will go offline to come around safely.
- The difference in the 2 Advanced Groups is that we grid by avg. lapping pace so that you are out there with cars of similar speed to minimize the extreme closing rates that can occur in other advanced groups between momentum vs. horsepower cars.
