About this event
Join us on Saturday June 9th and 10th for a weekend of scenic driving through state and national parks! We will drive over 400 miles over two days with an overnight stop in adventurous Big Bear Lake! On Sunday, we will drive through the hills of the Angeles National Forest and drop down into LA for a tour of the Petersen Museum.
Saturday we will meet at BMW of Escondido (1557 Auto Park Way, Escondido, CA 92029) at noon, and lunch will be provided by BMW of Escondido. At 12:30, I will give a brief overview of the days drive and will hand out direction and a list of Points of Interest that you may indulge upon yourself. You can drive straight to Big Bear Lake, or stop at scenic viewpoints or stores for shopping. This is a "choose your own adventure" drive in that you can do a spirited drive all th way, you can take your time and enjoy the break from the normal day-to-day routines, or you can stop in all teh small towns to see what they have to offer. There is no one way to do this event!
Saturday night, we will meet for dinner as a group, location to be determined the morning of.
For lodging, it is up to you to make your own arrangements. Many hotels in Big Bear have multiple night stay requirements, and other main hotels are already booked for teh evening. I recommend making a reservation through the individual hotel website or Hotels.com. There is no group code or reservation number. If rooms are unavailable, please look for nearby hotels. Rooms are sparse in Big Bear so reserve your room soon.
Sunday we will meet at Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain (800 Wildrose Ln, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315) at 8am. At 8:30, I will again go over the day and pass out driving directions. Then we drive due west towards the Petersen Automotive Museum. We should arrive at the museum around noon. Optional is to return to San Diego if you'd like to pass on the museum tour, the choice is yours.
After the tour, we shall embark south on the wondrous highway system that is Los Angeles towards our home. There is no final meetup, just head south towards your home and reminisce of wonderful weekend you just had.
Event requirements
This is a San Diego BMW CCA Chapter event, so you will have to sign a wavier at the beginning of the drive in Escondido. Please arrive with a full tank or gas as there are stretches of road without a filling station for 50+ miles at a time.
