Each machine racing in AMA District 16 Flat Track competition in 2027 will need a transponder for scoring purposes.

After consultation with Westhold, AMA District 16 has selected the Westhold G3 (yellow) transponder with the rounded top, as this transponder is best suited for the speeds and close finishes that are common in flat track competition (compared to kart racing or MX racing). This transponder design is also compatible with mounting brackets from other suppliers, which gives D16 racers additional options. These are the same style of transponders (and pouches) that have been used at Flat Out Friday, the Steel Shoe Fund 3 Hour, and the Dairyland Classic for several years. They were also demonstrated at several D16 flat track events in 2026.

AMA District 16 is offering the Westhold transponders, Westhold charging units, and Westhold nylon pouches to D16 members through this MotorsportReg event.

Each entrant or family is responsible for determining how many transponders, charging units, nylon pouches and/or aftermarket mounting brackets they will need to ensure that any shared transponders can be moved between machines in a timely fashion.

Transponders $168 ($226 MSRP):

• Every machine competing in every class at any meet will need to have a unique transponder securely mounted to it.
• Each entrant may use one transponder on multiple machines and in multiple classes, if desired.
• Each entrant may use multiple transponders for multiple machines; provided they are used in different classes.
• Entrants may share transponders with other entrants at any meet, provided that every entrant in any class has a unique transponder.

Charging Units $38 ($42 MSRP):

• Each transponder needs to be charged occasionally during the season.
• One charging unit can be used to recharge multiple transponders. However, it can only charge one transponder at a time. Estimated charging time is 1-4 hours per transponder.
• A fully charged transponder will operate for about 5 days.

Nylon Pouches $15 ($18 MSRP):

• Each machine will need either a Westhold nylon pouch or an aftermarket mounting bracket to secure the transponder to your machine. AMA District 16 is offering the nylon pouches, but not the aftermarket brackets. If you intend to purchase an aftermarket bracket, you do not need a nylon pouch.
