HOD Run Groups

Novice (Red Group)
For newer track drivers (0–10 events). In-car instructor required; lead follow available for Novice Solo drivers. Point By Passing in designated straights.

Intermediate (White Group) Requires prior experience and instructor approval. Point By Passing anywhere steering is straight. 10+ track days

Advanced (Blue Group)
Experienced, solo drivers. Comfortable managing traffic at an elevated pace, is highly predictable. Multiple tracks driven. Point By Passing anywhere on track. 40+ track days

Expert (Yellow Group)
Highest level; years of track experience. Multiple tracks driven in all conditions, comfortable going side by side with other cars in traffic, handles pressure accordingly & is highly predictable. Passing anywhere point-by optional but recommended. Must be cleared by C.I.

Safety & Technical

Age Requirement: 18+ (16-17 with parental waiver)

Helmets: SNELL SA2020 or newer. No Motorcycle (MA) helmets.
- Closed face helmets with visor are required for convertibles
- Helmets are available for rent at $50/day includes balaclava

Clothing:
- Street Cars/full interiors: Short sleeves OK, long pants, closed-toe shoes.
- Race Cars/gutted interiors: FIA or SFI Rated race suit, gloves, race shoes – recommended.

Prohibited Vehicles: SUVs, trucks, motorcycles, open-wheel vehicles. Hybrid, fully electric cars and small chassis track cars such as Atoms, Exocets, and Rush are not permitted at NJMP.

Tech Inspection: Vehicles must pass a self tech inspection form. driver accepts all responsibility for bringing a track ready car to the event. Seats & restraints must be equal for passenger and driver. Refunds will not be given for mechanical failures or unprepared cars. You are solely responsible for bringing a track ready vehicle to the event.
Drivers Track Damage Responsibility: Drivers must cover any track damage or cleanup costs they cause; cleanup and damage repair fees will be charged to the credit card on file on event day. If the track damage invoice from the track is incomplete at event close, we may estimate damages. Refunds will be issued if our estimate exceeds actual damages, additional charges will be made if estimate falls short of actual damage.
No Passengers other than HOD cleared Instructors are allowed in car at NJMP. Passengers allowed at other venues for solo cleared drivers. Passengers must have a passenger wrist band.
Passenger educational laps allowed with instructor driving – non registered participants must attain a passenger wristband at registration - $20.00
Convertible Policy: Must have fixed roll bar and meet “broomstick” test. Active roll bar systems must be deployed prior to going on track.
HANS Devices -A certified (SFI 38.1, FIA 8858 or newer) head and neck restraint device (HANS) MUST be used by all occupants of any car with an aftermarket harness and roll bar/cage system.

Amenities:

Paddock Space: For personal tents/canopies, trailers – Hooked On Driving is not responsible for lost or damaged property
Camping: Overnight available on-site through NJMP directly, Electric service can be purchased at NJMP clubhouse. Entrance to the paddock & trailer dropoffs are allowed after 7:00 PM the night before the event. Contact NJMP directly at 856-327-8000 to inquire about pre-event entry. All vehicles must leave the facility by 6:00 pm on the last day of the event.
Food: On site at NJMP clubhouse
Fuel: Available on site - HOD is not responsible for availability of fuel trackside.

Driver Track Ready Acceptance:

Drivers are hereby informed and acknowledge that refunds or credits will not be issued for any loss of track time arising from the presentation of a vehicle or equipment that is unprepared, unsafe, or mechanically deficient at the event.

SAFETY FLAGS:

Please come with a sound knowledge of these flags and their meaning on track.

1. Yellow flag - caution, no passing until next clear flag station.

2. Waving yellow flag - caution immediate danger, slow down, no passing, until next clear flag station.

3. Red flag procedure - all vehicles shall come to a controlled stop, off the race line within sight of a flag station. The flagmen shall direct the vehicles when and how to resume. A Black Flag all stations will come out after a Red Flag is cleared indicating for all vehicles to proceed immediately into the pits.

4. White flag - slow vehicles on the track and/or last lap of a race

5. Yellow and red stripe flag - caution, oil, or debris on the track on the race line

6. Black flag with orange ball - mechanical problem with the vehicle to which the flag is pointed to. Vehicle must pit immediately and go to pit lane

7. Black flag - vehicle to which the flag is pointed must proceed immediately to pit lane – Black Flag all stations – all cars return to pits.

8. Green flag - track is clear and vehicles may proceed at race speed

9. Checker flag - indicates the finish of a race or the end of a session. Vehicles shall slow to cool down speeds – 60-70% of normal pace, cease all passing, and proceed to pit lane.

Any disregard for flagging rules and safety protocols or unsafe driving in paddock or on track will be grounds for ejection from event without a refund.

FAQ's

Do I need to modify my car for HOD?

Usually not. You don't need upgrades to participate—any street-legal car will do, whether it's your commuter or a special occasion vehicle.

Here’s what you should check before heading to the track:

Perform tech inspection as detailed in tech form - if you believe that you are not qualified to do so, have a certified automotive repair shop perform the inspection
Inspect wheel bearings for excessive play or wear.
Make sure your brake pads or shoes have at least 50% material remaining.
It’s highly recommended to flush and replace your brake fluid with high-temperature synthetic fluid.
Tires should also have roughly 50% tread left—if they’re at the wear bars, they won’t survive a track day.
Set tire pressure to the manufacturer’s specs before arriving. Track driving heats up tires, increasing pressure, so check your pressures after your first session and adjust as needed. It’s common to drop pressure by 4-8 psi for optimal on-track performance. A precise gauge is essential.
Remove snap-on wheel parts and torque lug nuts to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Ensure all factory belts and safety equipment are in good condition.
Fuel up before you get there, but don’t overfill. You’ll burn through gasoline quickly on track, and cars usually handle better with a reasonably full tank. Track fuel is available but tends to be expensive.
Check coolant and other fluids (air-cooled engines skip coolant), make sure oil is topped off (for dry-sump Porsche engines, oil should be at the low end of the indicator).

Finally, clean out the interior. Remove garage door openers, E-Z Pass, loose change, floor mats, child seats, and any loose items inside or from the trunk—they should be secured outside the car. Most people end up with a pile of belongings by their vehicle at the track.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

If cancelled 31+ days before an event, event fees minus a $50 fee are refunded or credited (valid for 12 months at another HOD event in the same region).
11–30 days prior, fees minus $100 per event day are credited to your HOD account (valid for 12 months).
Cancellations within 10 days or no-shows forfeit all event fees.

What about your Rain Policy?

Events proceed regardless of weather; participants must attend as scheduled.
Many events with poor forecasts still offer quality track time and valuable experience in wet conditions.

What run group should I be in?

Our Run Groups:

Group A – Novice: It is recommended that participants, even those with prior track experience, initially join Group A to familiarize themselves with the facility and course layout. A significant proportion of this group works directly with instructors, speeds are lower, and passing is permitted only in designated zones. Classroom instruction forms an integral component of the program. Individuals uncertain of their group placement should start in Group A; typically, progression to a faster intermediate group can be accommodated as appropriate.

Group B – Intermediate: Drivers in this category demonstrate familiarity with the track, effectively manage traffic, and maintain consistent adherence to safe driving lines. These individuals exhibit predictability as well as emerging proficiency and confidence. While high speeds are not a prerequisite for inclusion in Group B, drivers must remain attentive to mirrors and flag stations and engage in cooperative passing practices.

Group C – Advanced: Advanced drivers possess considerable speed and comfort on the track, employing sophisticated techniques such as left-foot braking, heel-and-toe shifting, and alternative driving lines in alignment with their vehicles' capabilities. Some participants may operate cars equipped with enhanced brakes, suspension systems, or tires. Although the pace is notably faster, it is emphasized that competitive driving is not permitted. Any instances of aggressive behavior will result in the issuance of a black flag. Passing is allowed anywhere on track with a point by. Participants are encouraged to drive with windows up (track dependent) and utilize indicators or turn signals to enhance safety and comfort, though driving with windows down is permitted if preferred or if factory turn signals are unavailable.

Group D – Expert: This group comprises the fastest and most experienced participants. Open passing without indicators from the car being overtaken is permitted. For safety and comfort, keeping windows up is advised ( Track dependent) but not compulsory. To prioritize safety over competition, all participants are expected to practice cooperative passing and avoid abrupt overtaking maneuvers, especially mid-corner. The group includes high-performance street vehicles operating at their limits as well as race-prepared vehicles outfitted with structural cages, five-point harnesses, and fire suppression equipment. Many drivers may hold competition licenses; however, they choose this environment for its emphasis on safety and enjoyment.
