2026 Street Survival #2 SUN (April), Volunteers

Michelin Proving Grounds

About this event

Street Survival Volunteers and Coaches, we are planning our Spring Street Survival for SATURDAY

The Street Survival dates will be Friday April 10tht for setup and Saturday April 11th for the students activities.

We expect a full-house of students with a waitlist, so 15-18 coaches will be required, plus volunteers, to handle this event properly.

Please check your clendars and register now for coach or volunteer.

Thanks,

Important Changes:

This year we are going to take a "next step" in our program to train new drivers.

We are limited in how many students we can process by the classroom size at Black Lake.  We have 50 + or - chairs in the classroom.  With a parent and student attending that makes our student limit 25-28.  Extending that to 2 classes a year will limit us to 50 or so total students.  To get past this cap we will need to add more dates.

To add dates we have two choices; we add a date in the June- July months.  Which we have done in the past and just about no one wants to be on Black Lake when it is hot.  Or we try adding another day to the current weekend.  Other Chapters do this with success and are providing guidance.

The plan is to put together a 2 day weekend on April 11th and 12th.  Setup will be on Friday the 10th starting at 3:30.  Tear down will be Sunday after the Graduation exercise, around 4:30.

I will be setting up TWO events for registration purposes as well as student registrations.

You have choices so be careful when you register:

Do Saturday only

Do Sunday only

Do Both days (you MUST register on each registration)

Do one day preferred, both if needed

Volunteer Registration for Tire Rack Street Survival at Michelin Proving Grounds, Laurens, SC

The Street Survival school teaches new drivers the fundamentals of car control under the guidance of in-car Coaches (instructors).  As a volunteer, you will be helping the students become more comfortable and confident with operating a vehicle.  We want to encourage the students to drive safe and drive smart.

There are two main volunteer positions; in-car Coach and Course Monitor.

As a Course Monitor, you are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the course. This includes..

  • directing any drivers who are lost
  • setting up cones that are knocked over
  • supervising skid pad operation
  • assisting students during vehicle inspection

As a Coach, you will provide students with in-car instruction during the driving portion of the school.  Previous coaching experience is not required, but a good understanding of car dynamics and safety is necessary. Depending on the number of registered coaches, you may have up to (2) students. Some topics to discuss with your student(s) include...

  • ABS operation
  • weight transfer
  • understeer and oversteer
  • "eyes up", look ahead
  • distracted driving

Plan to arrive at 7:00AM and plan to leave around 5:30PM. Lunch is provided.

Event requirements

**All in-car Coaches need to complete an online training course prior to the date of the event.**

You only have to take the training course once. If you have already completed the course, disregard this portion. Course Monitors do not need to take the training course.

To go to the online training course enter the following web address into your internet browser:

Upon successful completion, save the certificate and forward it to Tim Beechuck by email.  His contact information is at the end of the course.  Provide the chapter/region you are instructing for. For this event, it is the Sandlapper Chapter of BMW CCA.
