PCA LA will hit the road again and head out to the desert for 2017 Palm Springs Modernism weekend!
Palm Springs Modernism Week is on February 16-26, 2017, and we will depart Friday, February 17, 2017 and return the afternoon of Sunday, February 19, 2017.
Scheduling the architectural tours is your responsibility. On Friday we will have a welcoming party starting at 4 pm and ending at approximately 7pm at Kaiser Grille, 205 South Palm Canyon Drive Palm Springs, CA 92262 Tel. 760-323-1003. No reservations are needed for Friday night, only Saturday night.
Saturday night dinner is at 6 pm at Kaiser Grille. See the valet for self parking instructions. If you are interested in Saturday night dinner, please continue the registration process. There is no cost but we will need to give a head count to the restaurant.. We will be reserving space at Kaiser Grille restaurant. Friday is when most of us will go and most people work – BUT IT IS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND so you may want to do a drive around noon to avoid bad traffic. You may also wish to consider leaving around noon on Thursday, February 16 to avoid traffic problems. Since many of us have different schedules, we have not planned a drive tour out to Palm Springs for the event.
It takes approximately 2 hrs 15 min to get to Palm Springs from West LA with no traffic, but with traffic it could take up to 4 hours.
The Modernism events we are suggesting for our group trip would be from Friday, February 17 to Sunday, February 19, 2017. The event tickets are now on sale online at www.modernismweek.com. It is best to go online ASAP, to get the tours you want. Some of the most popular events are the Sunnylands Tour, Frank Sinatra Twin Palms home, Charles Phoenix Double-Decker Bus Tour, Frey House II Tour, Neighborhood walking tours (some are exterior only and some have interior tours) and the presentations/lectures/exhibitions.
An alternative clean, less expensive, hotel available NOW is Quality Inn, 1269 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs 92264. The rooms are $112 to $114 per night, but if you want that price, reserve ASAP. It is not in downtown, close to the other hotel, but a short drive away.
