GVC Ultimate Driving School - Mosport Intl.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

About this event

·

The Genesee Valley Chapter of BMW CCA is proud to offer a special 2-day HPDE at Mosport International Raceway Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.
The GVC has over 26 years of experience conducting HP driving schools, and is nationally recognized for its carefully structured, state-of-the-art, 2-day instructional program emphasizing driver skill development and safety.

Our highly trained and experienced in-car instructors coach participants at all levels of skill development, reinforcing the theory and practice of high performance driving taught in the classroom by one of our master classroom instructors.
The knowledge and skills learned here will certainly carry over to “the street”, making you a more confident and safe driver.
Format of the Mosport HPDE
The format of this event is different from most HP car club driving schools.  The basic theme for the school is maximum track time for both students and instructors
Students:
The school is aimed primarily at advanced and intermediate students. Because of the advanced format, novices are not accepted.
Highlights include:
·         Only one student run group of no more than 40 cars.
·         Personal instructor assigned to each student for both days.
·         Four half-hour student track sessions:  three student-only sessions, one “open” session (students and un-assigned instructors), during which students will be coached in-car by their instructors.
·         Three classroom sessions each day conducted by Derek Hanson, one of the most highly-regarded and knowledgeable HP driving instructors in North America.
·         Liberal passing rules that reduce frustrating “trains” behind slower cars:
o   Passing allowed on any straight with a point-bye.
o   Late passing into corners is allowed and expected.
o   Passing exercises will teach late passing techniques, and how to extend  braking zones into the entry of corners.
·         Students who have been signed-off to drive solo may also run with the instructors.

Instructors:
Instructors are invited to join us for two days of open-track driving. Instructors will be assigned no more than one student, and will instruct this student for 4 half-hour track sessions each day.   Instructors may sign-off skilled students to run solo after the first run session each day (solo students are free to run with instructors in open-track).
The track is open for lapping by all instructors (and solo students) at all other times, including the 4th student run group of the day.

We provide extensive written materials to help prepare you and your vehicle prior to coming to the track.  To make the experience more enjoyable for students and instructors new to Mosport, there will be a presentation the night before the event covering the schedule and curriculum of the driving school, route instructions to the track, the layout of the track facilities, where to go for help, and so forth.

    Bonus Features:

ALMS Race and BMW Corral

Special pricing is available to attend the ALMS race at Mosport on Sunday, July 24, just prior to the driving school on Monday and Tuesday.  The ticket costs $75, and includes both entrance fee, parking in the corral, and access to the BMW Hospitality tent, which includes lunch and driver appearances.

Contact Dave Lanni for details and to purchase a ticket:  dealanni@rochester.rr.com

Track “Walk”:  A guided tour of the track led by the Classroom Instructor is held at the end of the first day.   You will car-pool in vehicles to selected corners, disembark to examine and discuss the track features on foot with the classroom instructor.
Socialize:  Participants are encouraged to gather on Monday night for drinks and dinner at The Keg, a short 10-min. drive from the Holiday Inn host hotel in Oshawa.  Mingle at the bar with other drivers, instructors, friends and family. Swap tall-tales and hair-raising track incidents, debate "the line" in turn 2, and brag about how late you braked going into turn 8.  (Note: drinks and food are not covered by the event fees).
"Track Buddy" Support System for US Participants:
  •       Car caravan:  Want to go, but don't know anyone else who's going?  GVC will assist US participants who wish to "caravan" with others to Canada, up and back.  Helps relieve the anxiety of travelling alone far from home.
  •       Breakdown assistance:  Worried what to do If you car becomes disabled?  Rest easy.  GVC will help arrange for vehicle transport (typically, on a participants trailer or hauler) back across the US border.

Required Forms*

·        Tech Inspection Form:  When you have been accepted as a student for this event, you will receive an email confirmation.  Attached to that email will be a Pre-Event Safety Inspection (“Tech”) Form and a Medical Form (see below), also available by following this link: GVC Tech & Medical Form (.pdf).
