Open to PCA members interested in learning more about GGR Driver's Education/Time Trial series and competitive/performance driving. Ground School is required before participating for the first time in any GGR Driver's Education events, regardless of entrant's experience. We encourage you to register (if registration is open) for a driving event before taking the ground school; however you must have completed the school before the driving event takes place. Due to the popularity of our events, space for first time attendees at a driving event is limited, and completing the ground school does not guarantee you a spot in the next driving event. We send out acceptance notices to first time attendees one week prior to the driving event.
Guest Driver Program/Ground School Waiver
While attending GGR Ground School is a firm requirement for drivers new to track events, it is not always practical or reasonable to require of intermediate or advanced drivers so we offer a means to have this requirement waived if certain criteria are met. In order to have your Ground School requirement waived, you must have significant, referenceable, appropriate experience with other track organizations and ideally, certain recognized competition licenses. By "significant", we mean more than a few events; by "referenceable", we mean that an official from another driving organization must be able and willing to vouch for you and by "appropriate", we mean that you must be able to function in a Driver's Education (as opposed to racing) environment where drivers are given lots of room, passing is via "point-bys", courteous driving is expected and risky behavior is shunned. If you feel you are a good candidate for this waiver, please do the following things:
· Contact us (email preferred) indicating that you intend to request a Ground School waiver. If you have a valid competition license, especially a PCA Club Racing License, POC Competition License, IMSA Competition License, (not provisional) or SCCA Racing License or are a Nationally Trained PCA Instructor, please indicate this and be prepared to provide evidence of this at or prior to registration at the track.
· Have an official(s) from the other driving organization(s) (as similar to PCA as possible) contact us (email preferred) and indicate who he/she is, what organization they represent, who you are, some indication of how long they've known your driving, and whether or not they feel you are observant of flags, obedient of club rules, a safe driver, possess a good attitude and can function in a Driver's Education environment.
A very small committee will review your case and provide an answer as to whether your Ground School requirement has been waived within a few days of receiving the supporting material.
Note: GGR reserves the right to send an instructor with a Guest Driver for a check-out ride in order to validate that this program is working properly.
