The Nethercutt Collection & Museum – over 240 automobiles

In 1956, J. B. Nethercutt purchased two cars, a 1936 dusenberg Convertible Roadster for $5,000, and a 1930 DuPont Town Car for $500. Both needed total refurbishing. He estimated that the DuPont would take a few weeks, but it took 18 months and over $65,000. It was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours in 1958, where it won “Best of Show.” Since 1958, Mr. Nethercutt has won Pebble Beach six times, more than any other individual. Those two cars are still in the Collection.

Please take a look at the Nethercutt website for a glimpse of what is in store for us (http://nethercuttcollection.org/). Besides the automobiles, you will find collections of nickelodeons, music boxes, David Winter Cottages, Dolls, Coins and crystal figurines. The Grand Salon features Marble columns, crystal chandeliers and painted ceilings that show off what a Grand Salon Showroom from the 1910’s, 20 and 30s was like.. On display are dusenbergs, Cadillacs, Isotta-Fraschini, Dalahaye, Minvera, Renault, Mayback and many other European and American build automobiles.

On the Mezzanine level you’ll see a fabulous collection of radiator Hood Ornamentss “Mascots”, including Lalique Crystal mascots and 18th & 19th Century French Furniture.

This Collection also houses one of the world’s largest collection of Orchestrions and other musical instruments. You will listen to a “recording” of George Gershwin himself playing “Rhapsody in Blue.” This alone sent chills down my spine.

While the automobile collection is world class unto itself, the other collections are well worth bringing family and friends who might not be as keenly interested in them as you might be.
