Students: Experience the Tarheel BMWCCA High Performance Driver School at VIR on the Full Circuit for the low cost of  $365.00 for two full days.  Thanks to our sponsors for making the cost to students affordable. Please,  No one under the age of 18 years may participate in a Tarheel BMWCCA High Speed Driver School.  

Registration for Students opens to Tarheel BMW CCA members on Jan 20, 2009 at 8:00 PM, Eastern Standard TimeFirst 10 days of registration for students, 1/20-1/30 are reserved for current Tarheel Chapter members only, We do check with National on all memberships, is yours lapsed?

Registration for Instructors is open for INVITED INSTRUCTORS on Jan. 1, 2009 at 8:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time

  • Instructors: We are anticipating a full school and need your able assistance to insure that each student has an in-car instructor.  We will only confirm students as we have committments from instructors; no instructor will have more than two students.  We assign you to A/C or B/D to enhance the time spent with students in debreif and pre-track planning.

    We offer Friday prior to the school as Instructor Orientation day. We will be Training ITS candidates, as well as offering a brief seminar for current cadre during lunch. There will be lots of quality track time for everyone.  We also welcome instructors who can only attend Sat and Sun. We will be on the Full Course at VIR. In-car instructors register for Fri/Sat/Sun if you are attending all three days. All Instructors see Instructor confirmation packet available on www.tarheelbmwcca.org for further infirmation on headquarters, etc.,.

 

Event requirements

First 10 days of registration for students, 1/20-1/30 are reserved for current Tarheel Chapter members only,  If the school has not filled in ten days it opens to the other current BMW CCA members on a first received basis. There will be an ITS school for new instructors. Only previously screened A group students who are invited to the training will participate. A level students Interested in instructing in the future may read how to become an instructor on www.tarheelbmwcca.org under Driving School. When you are near to meeting these requirements ask your in-car instructor to evaluate your driving for all A driving skill sets and instructor potential and recommend you for the next ITS school. It takes two recommendations of in-car instructors to qualify.

NO TIMING EQUIPMENT ALLOWED. Do not ask for exceptions, our HPDS Insurance prohibits it.  Please check www.tarheelbmwcca.org  under HPDS Insurance to read the latest information on what is covered by the BMW CCA Insurance.  Hint: Do not ask your agent if you are covered; rather ask for all exclusions in writing.  The provided BMW CCA Insurance is for LIABILITY and is very good.  We, as organizers strive to comply with the BMW CCA HPDS guidelines and to be diligent in enforcing the policies. This gives the best opportunity to successfully defend any lawsuit (heaven forbid) occurring out of our HPDS. Your cooperation enables us to maintain reasonable insurance costs to the chapter and keeps our price of the events competitive.  You as waiver signed participants are covered for liability ensuing from your participation in this event. You must understand that you are not protected by this policy for collision.  This is a gentleman's sport.  You are responsible for your vehicle and that of anyone else involved with you in a collision at the event.  Private insurance policies may not cover at a "racing surface" based school.  READ your exclusions.
 

  • All cars must be tech inspected and Tech Sheet completed prior to registration. It is your responsibility to ensure that your car is safe. 
  • A Snell-rated helmet (with sticker) is mandatory! Both SA and M rated SNELL 2000 or newer helmets are allowed.
  • Equal restraints are required for driver and passenger. This applies to student cars and instructor cars.
  • Long sleeve shirts and long pants are required. All cars must have front passenger seat. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Requirements for participation in a convertible or open-top car are based on BMW CCA guidelines and may be found on our website: www.tarheelbmwcca.org
  • Negotiated motel rates are POSTED ON THE www.tarheelbmwcca.org SITE. This motel will be the headquarters for registration on Friday evening. Be sure to request the BMW CCA Tarheel negotiated rate.
  • Instructor Registration is Friday at the track, Friday night at the Headquarters Motel, or 7:00 AM Saturday AM. The arm band is placed on your arm at registration when you sign the waiver, and is your pass through the VIR entrance gates and is required for entrance onto the track it is good for the weekend. This facilitates track access in the mornings and the armband is required for entrance onto the track. .
  • Note that signing the waiver enrolls you in the Liability Insturance protection purchased through BMW CCA for this event.
  • The event will be held rain or shine. However, the club may cancel or close down the event if the track or weather conditions pose an inordinate safety concern for the participants. The decision is that of the Chief Instructor and Event Coordinator.

STUDENTS, All run groups receive instruction provided by in-car instructors & classroom instruction. For selecting your run group preference, use the following guidelines
 

  • Experienced students but first time students to VIR full may be placed in a lower run group for first day to facilitate learning the line and nuances of VIR full at a more comfortable pace. Your incar instructor may choose to move you after lunch on Sat or Sunday AM.

    A STUDENTS: Experience 15 or more schools and master B level skill sets or completed B master B level skill sets, with recommendation of Instructor to move to A.
  • B STUDENTS: Experience 10 or more schools master c level skill sets or completed C and master C level skill sets with recommendation of Instructor to move to B.
     
  • C STUDENTS: Experience 5 or more schools master D level skill sets or completed D and master D level skill sets with recommendation of Instructor to move to C.
     
  • D STUDENTS: Experience 0 - 5 or more High Performance Dirver Schools; HPDS training will be provided by in-car instructors on the VIR Full Course, who will instruct to your individual needs & level. There are 4 run groups/4 sessions daily & classroom. Read all of the confirmation packet prior to arrival. Congratulations on your desire to become more competent drivers. Have fun and enjoy this low pressure venue for learning your car and improving your skills..

Your preference is to let us know what group you feel you belong in. It is just to help us place you in the appropriate run group. Please be sure your account on msr.com is up to date with your previous experience. Our Registrar does use that information along with your last instructor's recommendation to screen you for run groups. NOTE: we reserve the right to reassign as necessary based on available run group space.

  • Instructors: If you are a recognized instructor for Tarheel Chapter do not sign up as a "BMW CCA Member", doing so puts you in the student pool.  If you are not presented with access to the Instructor Available Sign-up, and you have instructed with Tarheel Chapter BMW before, contact the Tarheel Chief Instructor, Shane Gunn, M3scca26@aol.com and request to be flagged as an "Approved Instructor" for Tarheel Chapter.  If you were already flagged as instructor by the CI, you should have been directed to the Instructors only sign up. If you have been absent from instructing for Tarheel for more than two seasons, you may be on the 'INACTIVE" LIST. just sign up as available and the msreg.com will notify the CI that you are desirous of being reactivated.  Once you are on the "APPROVED" list,  select the Fri/Sat/Sun or the Sat/Sun option as appropriate and continue. Yes, it is necessary to complete the information requested in the forms. From them we will generate our school management paperwork. Under experience, Instructors may list , "Taught for X years from xxxx to 2009 with the last two years listing specific events with identified chapters.   Fill in T-shirt size and car & car color. Sat & Sun bring a CAR WITH TWO SEATS suitable for giving rides and a WORKING COMMUNICATOR. Invited BMW CCA guest instructors belonging to chapters other than Tarheel, who have instructed for us in the past are also encouraged to register.  Your online registration is time-stamped when you sign up online. The instructor fee for Friday is $110. Please do not pay on line. We will accept checks or cash at the Friday AM registration at the track. No one may attend Friday if not instructing Sat. & Sun.  Our policy is that instructors will have A & C or B & D students to facilitate time for pre-track communication and post-track debriefing, Please take full advantage of this important instructing opportunity.
