Nat'l Z Convention - Track Day

Nashville Superspeedway

About this event

Asphalt Ventures will be managing the track day for the 2010 National Z Convention hosted by the Z Car Club Association.

Having started my personal track event addiction in a Z, and through my association with the Triangle Z Club (NC), I've had a close relationship with the Z community for some time now.  I'm honored that the ZCCA thought of me and my staff to help with running the track day during the National Z Convention for 2010.  We hope to make the event seamless, fun, educational, and safe for all participants.

I am excited to be bringing along Chuck Hawks and rEvolution Performance to handle the classroom instruction duties for this event.  My goal is to provide the best track day experience of any Z Convention to date!

Except for instructors and touring lites attendees, participants MUST pre-register through the convention registration. Info and registration forms can be found at www.zcon2010.com

If you received an invitation email from Asphalt Ventures, it means your ZCon 2010 registration has been confirmed. You may proceed to the next information page to get officially registered for the track day.

Event requirements

The ZCon 2010 track day utilizes the road course portion of the Nashville Speedway... it incorporates 9 complexes of turns as well as the start/finish straight of the NASCAR oval.  It will provide a fun, exciting, and challenging circuit to all comers.

This event will be structured as a high-performance driver school.  There are three run groups available for paid participants based on experience level.  Instructors will have a group to themselves, and we will be running a Benefit Touring group (more on that below!)  Please read the following descriptions carefully:

  • Beginner/Novice - Open to drivers with little to no previous track experience (zero to three events.) You will have an in-car instructor and a dedicated classroom schedule
  • Intermediate - Open to drivers with more than four track events (four to fifteen). In-car instructor and dedicated classroom schedule
  • Advanced/Solo - Open to drivers with more than fifteen track events and/or those who hold a current race license. In-car instruction is optional, there will be two classroom sessions with Chuck Hawks during the a.m. run group rotation. If you choose this option as solo, you must be able/willing to provide references to verify solo qualifications.

Each of the above groups will have five track sessions (three @ 20 min, two @ 30 min in length.) Passing for all groups will be on the straights only, we will use hand-signals to facilitate each pass (details provided in event packet upon entry confirmation.)

Instructors... you will have four dedicated 20 minute track sessions. You also have the option to drive in the Advanced/Solo group if doing so allows you more time with your student(s). If you are not already an approved instructor for Asphalt Ventures, you will be asked to provide contact information for the most recent/regular group(s) you instruct for.

Benefit Touring Group (sometimes called "Touring Lite")... we have two sessions scheduled where owners of convertibles and roadsters can participate in the track day. These groups are also open to anyone who does not want the risk or expense of the full, high-speed track day. Proceeds from this group will go to benefit the Datsun Heritage Museum (www.datsunheritagemuseum.com). Even if you are participating in the track day already, this is a great opportunity to get a little more track time (albeit more relaxed) as well. Details:

  • Faster than normal parade laps
  • Groups of 8 to 12 cars will be released behind a pace car, laps will be conducted at a brisk (but not full speed) pace.
  • Vehicle must meet some basic safety requirements (all loose items removed from interior, hubcaps or center wheel caps must be removed, must have clean/fresh brake fluid... plus others to be checked with day-of tech form.)
  • Helmets are recommended, but not required
  • As each group passes pit lane, the first car behind the pace car will pit and rejoin at the back of the line... allowing all cars a chance to be at the front of the line
  • Each session costs $20 and will last approximately 40 minutes. (Note: If you choose to pay online with a credit card, the cost of the session will be $25 to cover transaction fees. We would prefer that you pay with cash or check at time of event check-in.)
  • There will be a 15 minute drivers meeting before each Touring Group session to go over rules and procedures (see schedule below for times)
