FULL COURSE

This event is a two day high performance driver's education event with an optional time trial for qualified drivers.  You can expect three 25 to 30 minute driving sessions each day with classroom discussions held between sessions.  Students will be grouped based on experience level into FOUR groups:

  • GREEN for novice and beginner students (generally 0-3 events)
  • YELLOW for novice/intermediate students (3-10 events)
  • BLUE for upper intermediate/advanced students (10-40 events)
  • RED for upper advanced/instructor overflow (30+ with verifiable solo experience)

Instructors will be placed in the
WHITE group but are allowed to drive in Red group (solo) to avoid conflicts with your students.

An instructor is included with your entry fee.  If you have not participated in an event with TZC/THSCC, you will have an instructor your first day with us (even in the solo group if you have not driven with us before.)

Instructors:  If you do not see an 'Instructor Entry' option when you register, it means we do not have you authorized as an instructor in MotorsportReg. First, have you forgotten your MSR log-in and created a new account? If so, please email us so we can retrieve your old information and merge the two accounts.  If not, and if you have not instructed with TZC/THSCC before, you must download and complete our New Instructor Application at least two weeks prior to the event.  Have your driving and instructing history ready, along with contact information for the Chief Instructors.  Complete and forward the application to Mark Vitacco (email below).  If you feel we should already have you listed as an instructor, please email me (Stacy King) at the address below.  We reserve the right to accept or deny any instructor application for any reason.  We take great pride in having some of the best instructors in the sport attend our events.   We are diligent in keeping a 2-1 or better student/instructor ratio at our events.  There is no instructor entry fee, our thanks for helping us out.

RULES AND PROCEDURES: All participants; students, solo drivers, and instructors should download and review our event rules and procedures.  These rules are in place for your safety and for the safety of those around you.  They also help ensure our events run smoothly and efficiently.

HELMETS:
All participants will be required to wear a Snell SA rated helmet (no motorcycle helmets) year 2000 or better.  No exceptions.

Tech Inspection: All cars, students' and instructors', must pass our annual vehicle inspection before your first event with us each year.  You can download the form and take it to your mechanic for them to complete and sign/stamp the form.  Bring it with you to event check-in and we will review it, then issue an annual tech sticker for your car, good for the remaining events this year.  New for 2008: All cars with non-stock safety equipment MUST be teched at an approved inspection location.  You can download the form from HERE.

Roll Bars: All convertibles and time trial cars must have an SCCA approved 4-point structural roll bar with SFI 45.1 rated high-density padding.  Factory roll-over protection is not acceptable at our events**.  Please view our tech guide for complete specifications and requirements.  Closed-top cars, cars with sunroofs or t-tops do not require roll bars.  A-roof (targa) cars will be approved on a case-by-case basis.

TIME TRIAL The time trial portion of our event is optional for an additional fee.  The time trial is open to drivers that are intermediate level at least, and have been signed off to solo for at least one session at each event.

All time trial cars are required to have a properly installed SCCA Time Trial spec 4-point roll bar with proper SFI 45.1 high-density padding, 5 or 6 point harness (no older than 5-yr from date of manufacture), Snell SA2000 or better helmet (no M-rated helmets), a mounted fire extinguisher, and an AMB compatible transponder.

Remember, if you have a transponder already, be sure to edit your vehicle profile on MotorsportReg.com to include the number!!  If you would like to purchase a transponder at a discounted rate, please contact Mark Vitacco at the address below.  For complete details on our time trial series, please download and read the time trial rules and procedures

** As of 2008, we now allow 2005 and newer ('987') Porsche Boxsters to participate in our DE program without additional roll-over protection, providing the driver and passenger can pass the "broomstick" test.  Older Boxsters ('986') must have installed the Brey-Krause hoop extension to be legal for our HPDE.  NEITHER vehicle is legal for the time trial however.

Pre-registration is required.  If you register online, but choose not to take advantage of online payment, your entry will not be confirmed until your paper entry and check have been received by the event registrar.  Your entry will be placed 'on hold' until we receive your check or you pay online.

Student entry:  $350
Optional Time Trial (one day/both days): $20 / $30

Skid Pad: $20 with HPDE

$40 one day skid pad only, $50 both days skid pad only.  Skid pad "only" attendees are welcome to attend the DE classroom sessions, watch the school and time trial sessions, and even seek rides with an approved instructor (please email us for details.)

** If you are a dues-paying member of the Triangle Z Club or Tarheel Sports Car Club, and you do not know how to get your club discount, please email us before continuing**

High Performance Drivers Education
Any driver with a valid US-issued driver's license (under 18 must have parent or legal guardian present) may attend.  Car must pass an annual vehicle inspection (detailed below) to show they are appropriate for track use.  Drivers must wear a helmet and proper clothing (detailed below).  Vehicle must be suitable for high-speed track use.

Time Trial
The time trial is a separate optional, competitive event open to drivers with the proper qualifications and cars built to SCCA Time Trial and other club racing specifications. (Detailed on previous page.)

THIS EVENT WILL RUN RAIN OR SHINE

  • This is NOT a race school - Our events focus on learning proper high performance driving technique that will translate well into both street and track use.  We focus our instruction on car control, on-track protocol, and advanced techniques that will be used with most clubs that run on-track driving events.  We pride ourselves on the safety of our participants and our guests.  We have developed an event that we feel offers the most for your track dollar while keeping the costs reasonable and the risks minimal.
  • As of January 1 2006, all helmets must be Snell 2000 specification minimum.  We will no longer accept M rated helmets of any year, nor will we accept Snell rated helmets older than 2000.  We have a very limited supply of loaner helmets that can be reserved on a first-requested, first-served basis.
  • All participants' cars must complete our annual vehicle inspection before attending their first event with us each year.  The inspection must be done at any of our annual inspection days (announced on www.timetrials.net) or at any independant shop with access to a car lift.  The inspection form must be filled out and signed or stamped by the mechanic.  The form will be turned in at event check-in and a TZC/THSCC tech sticker will be issued.  The annual inspection  form can be found here
  • All convertibles participating in the event (HPDE AND Time Trial) must have an SCCA Approved 4-point sctructural roll bar built to SCCA GCR specifications for Time Trials.  Factory roll-over protection is not acceptible for our events.  Please see our tech guide for more details.
  • All participants, staff, and guests must sign the event insurance waiver at time of check-in.  Everyone may also be required to sign the track's waiver as well.  Armbands will be issued when the waiver(s) are signed and must be worn at all times
  • Each track has its own set of rules and regulations regarding the use of its facilities.  Each paticipant will be issued a copy of these rules and will be required to follow them and make sure any guests abide by them.  Any infractions may be cause for expulsion from the event and any fees charged by the facility for any rules violations will be assessed to the individual(s) responsible
  • All participants will be expected to read and follow the guidelines set forth by TZC / THSCC to ensure a safe, fun, and extremely rewarding event.  Please download and read our rules and regulations document before arriving at the event.
