TRSS Coach/Volunteer - 7/29/2023 MCCC

Montgomery County Community College

About this event

Welcome! We need your help to teach teen drivers advanced car control skills that may save their lives.

Auto collisions are the #1 cause of death among our target audience: those aged 16 to 21.

You can make a difference by supporting this Tire Rack Street Survival school. Join us:
Philadelphia Region, Sports Car Club of America
Delaware Valley Chapter, BMW Car Club of America
Riesentöter Foundation, affiliated with Riesentöter Region, Porsche Club of America

The students may arrive grumpy--their parents signed them up and dragged them from their beds at a too-early hour to do something they think unpleasant. By mid-morning the students generally have big, enthusiastic smiles and eagerly await the next set of exercises. The school is actually FUN, for students and you

Our Tire Rack Street Survival schools are popular with our in-car coaches and volunteers. No one who has helped run a school has regretted it, and most return time after time. It's one of the best things we can do for the community.

Regardless of your experience or background, we have a place for you, and you will gain tremendous satisfaction and enjoy friendly camaraderie.

Event requirements

In-Car Coach

An in-car coach rides with the student in the car that the student drives daily and advises the student in car control exercises similar to segments of an autocross course. No helmets are worn or communicators used.

Coaches should have at least two years experience in autocross, high performance driving events or club racing. We particularly encourage you to sign up as a coach if you are a nationally-trained PCA DE instructor, BMW CCA driving school instructor or SCCA autocross competitor.

Unless you have already done so, please complete a short on-line training course that addresses how best to engage with teenagers: In-Car Coach Training. After you complete the course, e-mail your certificate as noted at the end of the training course.

Volunteer

Our volunteers make the school possible by registering students, setting and resetting the exercises, directing traffic, directing students from exercise to exercise, and keeping the range safe. No prior experience is necessary!
