Legends of the Autobahn and Audi West Coast Meet

Come join us and be a part of the Legends of the Autobahn auto show and Audi Club West Coast Meet on August 16, 2013.  The Golden Gate Chapter will be organizing Audi’s participation at this year’s Legends of the Autobahn car show and Audi Club West Coast Meet.   The Legend of the Autobahn car show has become one of the most popular events of the Monterey Classic Car week with nearly 500 cars to see.  Most of the cars in attendance at this event will come from the members of the local Audi, BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes Benz club chapters.    The event will return to the Rancho Canada Golf Club, 4860 Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel Valley, California.  Audi owners will have the opportunity to display their technically superior cars amongst the other great German marques in a beautiful park like setting.  There will be many interesting and significant cars to see.Please make plans to join us with your car, or just come to visit as a spectator.  Spectator admission is free, and we have been told that there is ample parking.  It is best to give yourself some extra time getting to the event as the area traffic is always a challange due to the many events in the area.

Audi will display one of their legendary R-8 WSC race cars, and winner of the 2005 24-hour at Le Mans endurance race. The Audi R8 Le Mans Race Car represents the beginning of an era.  After making its debut in the 2000 American Le Mans racing season, the R8 quickly became the measure of performance on the track, forever changing the racing world. The perfect balance between its predecessor’s most proven qualities and the latest technologies, the R8 was an instant classic, described as potent, reliable, and rugged. Its unique, componentized construction of fewer, larger pieces allowed for greater reparability and simplified maintenance procedures. Beautiful and fast, the R8 captured the hearts of its keepers and the admiration of its competitors.

The story of the R8 race cars is nothing less than legendary. With a service life of over six seasons, several versions of the R8 went on to win Le Mans five times and were victorious in 63 of 80 races across the globe. The final race of the R8 came in the 2006 ALMS season at Lime Rock Park where, even against some of the newest prototypes, the R8 (#605) achieved a convincing victory, reaffirming its reputation as one of the greatest race cars of all time

The Audi R-8 was one of the most successful Le Mans race cars in history. R-8's won Le Mans five of the 7 years in competed. it will be a treat to see such a famous race car at the event.

There are two ways to display your car, the general mixed marque corral, and the special “Judged Car” Audi display area.   We don’t want to call it a Concours since most of the cars are driven daily.  General Car corral registration is $30 through July 28^th; then $45 for late registration.  The “Judged Car” registration will be $60, then $75 for late registration.  Registration closes for all cars on August 9th.    We will award “Judged Car” trophies three deep in the following four classes:

*We reserve the right to move cars into different classes if there are not enough cars to fill a class. We will let you know if there are changes. We will publish the "Judged Car" rules on our Audi Club website. We plan to keep it fun and not too serious.

Registration closes for all cars on August 9^th.  The event is free for spectators and we are told there is ample free parking.  Audi “Judged Car” rules will be published on our website at a later date.

There will be food, beverages, and auto regalia available in a festival like atmosphere.  As in all Golden Gate chapter events all entered cars will receive some special Audi Club SWAG. 

The special Legends of the Autobahn golf shirts, this year in Navy, will be available for pre-order at $50 each for small, medium, or large, and $55 for XL and above. 

There are several meal options available when purchased in advance.  A breakfast buffet is $12.95, and there are two lunch options.  The lunch buffet is $24.95. The various menus can be reviewed when registering.  Participants can also choose to bring a picnic lunch, and choices for food at the event may be limited.   

We are also looking for volunteers to work as judges and general assistance.  Volunteers will receive free buffet breakfast for their well appreciated efforts. 

There are many other things to see at the event.  Numerous product displays, special manufacture displays, and our Audi club tent for general club information on events and membership.  The Spaten beer tent is expected to be at the event again this year for moderated refreshment. 

We plan to have a number of interesting Audi models on display both new and old.  Audi USA plans to display several new and perhaps special cars for us to see.  Of course most of the cars at the show are our personal cars we all know and love.  We are encouraging all area Audi owners to come, join us in the prideful display their cars, while enjoying the comradely of other Audi owners on the grass in this all day family friendly car show and picnic like event.  To find out more about the event visit the main event website http://www.legendsoftheautobahn.org.

Food & Beverage.

    Breakfast: Breakfast Buffet is $12.95, and must be purchased in advance. It includes choices of Assorted muffins, Croissants, pastries, and bagels.  Also includes assorted flavored cream cheese, Yogurt, Fruit, and Granola Parfaits, assorted fruit juice, coffee and tea.     

Lunch Buffet: Lunch Buffet is $24.95 and must be purchased in advance.  Lunch buffet includes choices of Caesar Salad, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Turkey & Roast Beef Pinwheels, Pasadera Burgers, Assorted Cookies and Brownies, Soft Drinks & Lemonade.

Aside from any other purchase you might make at this event, the Audi Club will provide you with a special Audi Club gift for this event.  Special Legends of the Autobahn golf shirts, in Navy, will also be available for purchase in advance or in limited quantities at the event.  Shirts in small, Medium, and Large are $50.00, and sizes in XL and above ar $55.00.

Other things to do while you're in the Monterey area:

In addition to the Legends of the Autobahn event, there are many things to see and do in the area during the “Pebble Beach Weekend”. For example, if there is sufficent interest, the Golden Gate Chapter is planning to attend the Monterey Motorsports Reunion historic car races on August 17 and 18.  There may also be a group going to the Pebble Beach Concours.  We encourage everyone to sample the large variety of auto related events all over the Monterey Peninsula.  It is common to see cars only seen in magazines driving though the streets of Monterey, or parked on Ocean Avenue in Carmel.   People come from all over the world to participate, see and be seen, at the plethora of local events. They come to take in the thick atmosphere of auto exotica that permeates the area streets.
