Hittin' the Highway for Hounds 'n Hairballs Rally

Eagle River - Chugiak

About this event

Hittin' the Highway for Hounds 'n Hairballs Road Rally

Hounds n Hairballs? Don’t you just love those furry friends in our lives — our beloved dogs and cats? Like adventure? Like to get out on the open road? The July 14th Hittin’ the Highway for Hounds ‘n Hairballs Road Rally combines them all!! As a twist, we'll be drawing for team names, based on our Hound 'n Hairball breeds, at Registration. And to help each team in their fundraising efforts for Straw for Dogs and Kitty and K-9 Connection, you may even have a little kitty of cash to start your efforts at the rally's start!

A Road Rally, which is often likened to going to Grandma’s house, yet no one knows where she lives, has teams of at least a Driver and a Navigator traveling on public roads in search of checkpoints. By following the Route Instructions, you’ll come across checkpoints and strive to arrive at the checkpoints in the perfect “zero” minute!  The sport, which has been in Alaska since the 1950’s, is made up of all types of vehicles — this is not just for sports cars — we have had trucks, SUV’s, family sedans and, of course, sporty-cars too!

Since 1986, a road rally has been part of the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce’s Bear Paw Festival. Sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America, it’s Arctic Alaska Region has registration open at www.alaskascca.motorsportreg.com and with a limit of 20 entrants, we encourage you to head over today for more details and to get your adventurous team registered for the Hittin’ the Highway for Hounds ‘n Hairballs Road Rally, the 27th Annual Mayday Mayday Road Rally! Online Registration will be open until Friday, July 12th, 12:00PM, yet with goodie bags from the organizers and printed course materials — if you are going to come run the Road Rally, please register todayYou’ll need to contact the Rallymaster directly to register after Noon, Friday, July 12th.

Using provided pledges sheets, Teams are encouraged to help our community through the raising of funds for Straw for Dogs and Kitty and K-9 Connectiontwo local non-profits who provide for our furry friends and their owners in their time of need. There will be goodies bags from the organizations and their supporters for those who have furry friends at their homes and for the rally team too! The Hittin’ the Highway for Hounds ‘n Hairballs fundraiser kick-off begins at the Alaska Pet Expo, Saturday, June 15th. Be sure to stop by their booth and checkout their programs should you be attending the free Alaska Pet Expo at the Sullivan Arena.

For more information on these fine organizations, please checkout their websites: http://www.kittyandk-9.org and http://www.strawfordogs.org both of which are 501C3 organizations.

Given the generous volunteer hours needed to go into our events — from the pre-check workers' time, Rallymaster re-check calcs/printing, and road rally layout expenses—we need your registrations as soon as you know you'll be running! Please, do not wait until the last minute. This event is limited to twenty Road Rally teams — show your interest to our Rallymasters and take care of your registration today!! Consider taking time to register for the Shift 'n Shinola Road Rally and you'll be set for the next event too, and you'll help insprie Rallymaster Engblom!

Upon your paid Registration, you will be sent the Road Rally Generals (the rules of the game) via email. You do need to arrive at the Rally's start, in Eagle River, by 12:00P as you will need to take care of final registration matters, your vehicle tech inspection and more! So that you may plan the rest of your day, you should wrapped-up with rallying and learning of the finishing scores by 5:00PM. Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to have a Minor Waiver form properly filled out; please contact Cheryl at 243-2122 to obtain the form prior to the event should both parents (or legal guardian(s)) not be at the event!

Don't have a dedicated rally partner? No worries—we are encouraging folks to arrive and form teams at the starting location! Register up so folks know you're looking for a rally partner.

Event requirements

REGISTRATION and ENTRY FEES
We encourage all of you planning to enter this event to register here at http://www.alaskascca.motorsportreg.com. One of your team will need to register the vehicle and their position on the team (Driver or Navigator) and the other will need to register their position on the team and personal information only. The entry fee for the summer Alaska Road Rally Championship is $20 per team member, with members of our sanctioning body, the Sports Car Club of America, receiving a $5.00 discount. This is why we need your registration here and we will keep online registration open until 12:00P on Friday, May 12th.

You may also call Cheryl at 243-2122 to register for Hittin' the Highway for Hounds 'n Hairballs Road Rally versus online registration.
