About this event
Hittin' the Highway for Hounds 'n Hairballs Road Rally
Hounds n Hairballs? Don’t you just love those furry friends in our lives — our beloved dogs and cats? Like adventure? Like to get out on the open road? The July 14th Hittin’ the Highway for Hounds ‘n Hairballs Road Rally combines them all!! As a twist, we'll be drawing for team names, based on our Hound 'n Hairball breeds, at Registration. And to help each team in their fundraising efforts for Straw for Dogs and Kitty and K-9 Connection, you may even have a little kitty of cash to start your efforts at the rally's start!
A Road Rally, which is often likened to going to Grandma’s house, yet no one knows where she lives, has teams of at least a Driver and a Navigator traveling on public roads in search of checkpoints. By following the Route Instructions, you’ll come across checkpoints and strive to arrive at the checkpoints in the perfect “zero” minute! The sport, which has been in Alaska since the 1950’s, is made up of all types of vehicles — this is not just for sports cars — we have had trucks, SUV’s, family sedans and, of course, sporty-cars too!
Since 1986, a road rally has been part of the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce’s Bear Paw Festival. Sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America, it’s Arctic Alaska Region has registration open at www.alaskascca.motorsportreg.com and with a limit of 20 entrants, we encourage you to head over today for more details and to get your adventurous team registered for the Hittin’ the Highway for Hounds ‘n Hairballs Road Rally, the 27th Annual Mayday Mayday Road Rally! Online Registration will be open until Friday, July 12th, 12:00PM, yet with goodie bags from the organizers and printed course materials — if you are going to come run the Road Rally, please register today! You’ll need to contact the Rallymaster directly to register after Noon, Friday, July 12th.
Using provided pledges sheets, Teams are encouraged to help our community through the raising of funds for Straw for Dogs and Kitty and K-9 Connection, two local non-profits who provide for our furry friends and their owners in their time of need. There will be goodies bags from the organizations and their supporters for those who have furry friends at their homes and for the rally team too! The Hittin’ the Highway for Hounds ‘n Hairballs fundraiser kick-off begins at the Alaska Pet Expo, Saturday, June 15th. Be sure to stop by their booth and checkout their programs should you be attending the free Alaska Pet Expo at the Sullivan Arena.
For more information on these fine organizations, please checkout their websites: http://www.kittyandk-9.org and http://www.strawfordogs.org both of which are 501C3 organizations.
Don't have a dedicated rally partner? No worries—we are encouraging folks to arrive and form teams at the starting location! Register up so folks know you're looking for a rally partner.
