Driver's Delight - Angeles Crest Highway with a new twist (or twists) to Vasquez Rocks
Beloved by cyclists and sports car drivers, the Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains is one of GPX's favorite playgrounds. On June 18, 2016 GPX will use a different route going up Angeles Crest Hwy then left down Angeles Forest Road for a day of driving the "Twisties". The Tour will end at the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park. Visit the Interpretive Center to view the geologic history or the movie and TV filming history. Hike the trails following in the footsteps of Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California's most notorious bandits.
Pack food and a cooler for a picnic lunch at the Park.
We will start in La Canada, on the top deck of the parking structure across from the "Sports Chalet" at the intersection of Angeles Crest Highway and the 210 Freeway. See map and directions to follow.
We will meet at 8:00 AM and depart promptly at 9:00 AM.
Starting up Angeles Crest Highway, the speed limit is 40 MPH until we reach Red Box Ranger Station. After that the speed limit is 55 MPH, in most sections. We will observe all speed limits, as they allow ample opportunity for spirited driving. Final route information will be sent 3 days before the event.
***Safety, Road Conditions, Route and General Information will be broadcast on GMRS (Walkie-Talkie) radio, Monitor Channel 7, Sub-Channel 20
This is a “Rain or Shine” event.
