Fall Foliage Tour

Gordonsville, VA

About this event

Phil and Susie Audibert’s Scintillating Seventh Fall
Foliage Tour

Sunday, October 28, 2012
Gordonsville, VA

After two years in the Valley, we are returning to the east side of the
Blue Ridge for a tour of the Piedmont. We’ll gather at 10:00 AM in
the Food Lion parking lot on Rt. 231 just south of the traffic circle in
Gordonsville and then wend our way north on a road familiar to many
(Rt. 231 north). Once in Madison County, we’ll leave our old familiar
friend and take back (but all paved) roads to places with names like
Rochelle, Jack’s Shop, Wolftown, Hood, Eheart’s Corner, and Burnley
Station.

Once in Barboursville we’ll visit Horton Vineyards (Cellars) for a
private tour of the castle-like winery and a wine tasting which includes
a souvenir glass. Winemaker Michael Heny will let us taste some
unfinished and finished wines to show us how wines change during the
winemaking process. If you’re not into wine tasting, walk around the
grounds and enjoy the beautiful views.

Afterward, we’ll go about a mile up the road to Stonefire Station for
a lunch in their ballroom that will include Stonefire’s seasonal soup,
signature side salad, choice of several gourmet sandwiches, kosher
pickles, plus an assortment of homemade cookies for dessert. Iced
tea, lemonade, and water will be provided. Other beverages can
be purchased for an extra charge. Please contact Sherry (numbers
below) if you have special dietary requests.
Waivers: Adults must sign the PCA insurance waiver before we depart
on the driving tour. Parents and children will need to sign the waiver
for “… MINORS IN RESTRICTED AREAS, DRIVING OR RIDING.” This
form may be downloaded from the Shenandoah web site and filled out
in advance. We’ll also have forms available in Gordonsville at the tour
starting point.

Cars will roll rain or shine, but the event postpones to the following
Sunday, November 4, if we have snow or ice.
