About this event
Covered Bridges Tour
Oregon has one of the largest number of covered bridges in the US at 50. At one time, 450 covered bridges were built in Oregon. In 1978, the Covered Bridge Society of Oregon was formed to help preserve the remaining bridges. In 2008, The National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program, administered by the Federal Highway Administration, awarded grants for rehabilitation of seven covered bridges in Oregon.
Your Oregon Chapter will provide a scenic tour that visits 5 historic covered bridges. Meet us at Denny’s in South Salem for breakfast if you wish. We will stop at the Larwood Bridge Park to enjoy one of the finest in Oregon.
Other bridges that we will visit are:
- GILKEY BRIDGE (1936)
- HOFFMAN BRIDGE (1936)
- SHIMANECK BRIDGE (1966)
