We are back at Autoclub Speedway as SCNAX hosts Autocross Sunday #11 of a scheduled 13 event dates for 2016. This kicks off the last 3 events of the season going into the stretch run of the Cal Club Championship Series.

For those of you that haven't experienced the thrill of autocross, your decision to join us at AUTOCROSS Sunday may just lead to an addiction.  Some who try it never leave. Others move on to different forms competition. But there's one thing that all who come have in common ........we're a family who has taken our driving skills to a level that makes us some of the most proficient drivers in the country.

What is Autocross?
Autocross is a safe, relatively low-speed motorsport where drivers must negotiate a course marked by pylons with their cars. Cars are sent out one at time with about 20 seconds between runs. Top speed in autocross is typically no faster than speeds you would find on public roads, thus most cars only need working seat belts and drivers only need a helmet for safety. Courses are typically laid out in empty parking lots or air strips. Our courses are usually about a mile in length and take between 45 seconds and 90 seconds to negotiate. Courses contain a series of elements such as curves, corners, and slaloms that test the driver’s skill and the car’s agility. Cars are separated into classes based on Sports Car Club of America rules for national classes as well as California Sports Car Club supplemental regulations for local classes. Events are timed and the fastest time in the class wins.  For a closer look, check out this excellent video by Stephen Chiang.

No Experience Necessary
While you may have never thought much about improving your driving skills, things you'll learn about your car and yourself may just keep you out of trouble by giving you the tools to negotiate our roads and highways more safely.  By participating in an Autocross Sunday, you will become a better driver .......GUARANTEED!

What is Autocross Sunday?
For some, Autocross Sunday is our time to show the world, well at least our friends, just how well we're able to negotiate the course in cars we've prepared for competition.  This is for bragging rights, plain and simple.  For others, it's a time to learn, both about ourselves and our cars.  It's about becoming a better driver and a better person.  But for all, it's about having fun and making new friends. New for this year, persons aged 12 and older are allowed as passengers. That's right! Your friends and family can now ride along. An SCCA membership is required. Passengers may get a free temporary membership at registration.

What to expect
Combine wonderful Southern California weather and a first class autocross course designed by SCNAX and we’re sure to have a great day of fun and competition.

Who are we?
Your hosts for the event are the volunteers who make up Cal Club SCCA Autocross, a not for profit club assembled for the sole purpose of organizing world class autocross events in the Cal Club Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Organizers are non-paid volunteers. All participants will be required to perform a normal work assignment as your contribution to the event.

The California Sports Car Club (CSCC) welcomes new participants to the sport. Our autocrosses are work/run events and our organization is not for profit. We're all volunteers. Everyone pitches-in and shares in the work as well as the fun. It is important that you show up to work on time and complete your work assignment. We realize that getting started can be confusing. To help you get acclimated, a Novice Coordinator will be there to answer questions and help familiarize you with the course and procedures. Course walks to help you with learning the course will leave the starting line @8:00am and during the lunch break. At the completion of the course walk, you'll get a briefing covering course safety and operating procedures. Once the event begins, instructors will be available to help you as little or as much as you want. We're a very friendly group, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask any of you're fellow participants. A smile and a courteous attitude will go long way toward making you autocross experience a great one. For more information to help you get started, check out our novice guide here.

We'll Have Food!
Oh yeah! Come hungry. Rodrigo of OC Catering will bring out the gourmet food truck for breakfast and lunch. Ask for George's Special Burrito. It's grrreat!
