Advanced Driver & Instructor Clinic at Laguna Seca

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

About this event

The Audi Club Golden Gate has secured Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway for a very special and unique event. Friday March 16 has been reserved for all Audi Club Golden Gate Members that are high intermediate (C-Level), advanced (D-Level), or are ACGG instructors. As always, we expect that the day will be both exciting and fun, but this event has the added benefit of also serving as a training course for all C&D students, who wish to become certified instructors.  Come join us at one of the most exciting tracks in North America; Mazda / Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey.

Laguna Seca is a 2.24 mile professional race track with significant elevation changes, slow and fast corners, and the corkscrew, one of the most famous turns in all of motor racing. When you combine the track, the location, and favorable weather of Northern California, you have the recipe for a great driving & learning experience.   This Advanced Driver & Instructor Clinic will give you an opportunity to improve your driving skills and learn more about your car's capabilities in an exciting & complex environment.

In addition to the three run groups for the day (C-Intermediate, D-Advanced, and Instructor) there will be an instructor certification class being conducted during the event.

Registration for this event is limited to 25 per group so register today.  To truly enjoy this picturesque location, you should plan to spend the weekend in Monterey, where you can enjoy wineries, shopping, galleries, and more.

Costs for this event:

The cost for this event is $299 for all registrants.  Each registrant will receive a $50 credit toward registration for the AudiTron event at Thunderhill Raceway, in May.  Instructor Candidates, and Instructors that volunteer to help at the event will receive an additional $50 credit towards their registration at AudiTron.  The credits for registration at AudiTron will be set up on Motorsport Reg.com approximately 2 weeks prior to the event at Laguna Seca, or approximately March 3rd.  For anyone that has allready registered for AudiTron, and who has not taken advantage of these credits, you will receive a voucher that is equal to the $50 or $100 credits, or higher.  Final decision on the exact value of the voucher is still pending.

Event requirements

Introduction:

All registrants must be 18 years of age or older, have a current drivers license, and be a current member of the Audi Club North America as of the date of the event. If you are not a member, or if your membership has expired, renewal memberships can be purchased during the registration process.

Helmets are required and must be rated according to the Snell Association as SA 2005, MA 2005 or newer. If you do not own a helmet, they can be rented when you register. ACGG offers choices from over 30 open and full face Bell helmets which were purchased new in 2009.

ACNA does not allow convertible automobiles unless they have an approved 4 point roll bar. See information on website wiki.   ACGG also does not allow participation with pick up trucks, SUVs, or open wheel cars.  We cannot accept registrations for these vehicle types.  ACGG does not allow fully race prepared cars for it's events.  All cars must have seats for both driver and passenger.

All cars must must pass technical inspection and each car must provide equal types of restraints for the passenger and driver.  If you have installed a (4pt, 5pt or 6pt) harness for the driver, you must also have this same level of restraint installed and usable by the right seat passenger.

Laguna Seca has a maximum noise level of 92 decibels. While almost all stock cars with factory mufflers  pass this maximum noise level the responsibility of compliance is up to the owners. No refunds will be given if your car exceeds the noise level.

Qualifications for this event:

Here is the fine print about who qualifies for this event. All student drivers (C/D) must have been solo'd at a previous ACGG event and driven at the C or D level. Additionally these drivers must have received positive evaluations from previous instructors. There will be very limited instruction available at this event.  If you have not been solo'd at  a C level at an ACGG event you will not qualify to attend. If you have questions about your eligibility for the event contact gordon@audiclubgoldengate.org PRIOR to registering for the event. Instructors must have instructed at an Audi Club Golden Gate event within the past two years and have experience at Laguna Seca Raceway.

Instructor Candidates:  Those that are interested in becoming instructors for the Audi Club MUST contact Terry Geiser (the Chief Instructor for the club) by email at terry@audiclubgoldengate.org or the chief instructor for the event paul@audiclubgoldengate.org prior to registering. To insure that we will deliver the highest quality of instruction, we are limiting the number of "Instructor Candidates" to a maximum of 8 individuals. Again, if you are interested in becoming an instructor, and you wish to attend this event as an instructor candidate, you must be pre-approved for the instructor training prior to registering for the event.

Instructors: 8 instructors will also be needed to assist in the instructor candidate training. Both the instructor candidates and the Instructors who assist in the training will receive a $100 credit towards the AudiTron event in May at Thunderhill Raceway. Both the candidates and the those instructors that will be assisting with event will be participating in activities that are focused on the certification and assessment of the instructor candidates, and as this is their primary focus for the day, they may not be able to take advantage of all of the sessions for their run group, which may cause them to lose some time on the track for open lapping. If you are interested in particpating as an instructor to assist in the training portion of the day, please select "Instructor Coach" as an option during the registration process.

We expect to see many instructors sign up as coaches for this event, so of those instructors that submit their names as being willing to coach during this event, the Chief Instructor will choose the best candidates for this role, and all who submitted their names will be notified by the Event Master or Chief Instructor as soon as the registrations are finalized.
