About this event
*** INSTRUCTORS - CONTINUE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AS NORMAL. ***
The Advanced CCC is targeted at anyone who is interested in performance driving, including novice HPDE and autocross participants, as well as intermediate participants who are interested in refining their performance-driving skills. The program’s exercises entail more advanced skills and topics like cornering theory, driving lines, advanced braking techniques (such as trail-braking), dynamic weight transfer, and heel-and-toe shifting. Previous attendance at a regular car-control clinic or other high-performance-driving event is a pre-requisite. Helmets will be required (a limited number of club loaner helmets are available). Sorry, cars only, no SUVs/high center of gravity vehicles will be allowed. |
All you need to attend is a membership in the BMW Club, a valid driver's license, and the registration fee which includes lunch. (You will also need to complete a Minor Waiver if you are under 18.) Two-driver cars are allowed (two separately registered drivers sharing one car). Helmets are required for the advanced clinic. Your helmet must meet the club’s helmet standards and must be inspected at check-in. The helmet must be certified as Snell M2010 or SA2010 (older M2005 and SA2005 helmets are also acceptable). |
The May 4, 2013 Advanced Car Control Clinic will be held at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, CA (Directions to Candlestick Park). Check-in for registered students opens at 7:30am. The event concludes at 6:00pm. The cost is $160 for BMW Club members and $208 for non-club members, which includes a one year membership in the BMW Club. You must be a member of the BMW Car Club of America to participate. You do not have to own a BMW to join the BMW Club or to participate in our driving events. |
Our Clinics are open to all club members wanting to learn more about enhancing their driver skills and understanding the capabilities of their cars. If you have been thinking about or planning to attend a track school, clinics are a prerequisite for first time track school students. We explore the many situations of vehicle dynamics in a controlled environment, with you in the driver’s seat. The program is structured for people without any formal performance driving experience. Our goal is to prepare you with a fundamental foundation of skills from which you can further develop your driving abilities. Each participant receives personalized instruction provided by experienced club Instructors. The level of instruction is tailored to fit the need of each individual student. |

Event requirements
*** INSTRUCTORS - CONTINUE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AS NORMAL. ***
If you are already a member of the BMW Car Club please remember to include your Membership Number in your registration. This information is required or your registration may be canceled. If you are not a BMW Club member you may purchase your membership with your registration (you do not have to own a BMW to join the BMW Club). If you are a member of a household which already holds a BMW Club membership, a lower cost option is to contact the national office to be added as an associate member of BMW CCA. |
We do not allow any SUVs at the Advanced Car Control Clinic due to their high center of gravity. Convertibles are allowed at the clinic. If there is a question about the appropriateness of your vehicle, please contact us at carcontrol@ggcbmwcca.org.
Helmets are required for the advanced clinic. Your helmet must meet the club’s helmet standards and will be inspected at check-in. The helmet must be certified as Snell M2010 or SA2010 (M2005 and SA2005 are also acceptable). A limited number of club loaner helmets will be available at the event.
If you are planning to buy a helmet, be sure to look for Snell certification, which is indicated by a special sticker inside the helmet. The sticker may sometimes be hidden under the helmet lining. Be aware that there are some "DOT Approved" helmets without a Snell certification - these do not meet the club's safety requirements. A limited number of "leftover" Snell M2005 and SA2005 certified helmets may still be on the market at clearance prices. These helmets certified to the 2005 standards will be useable with most motorsports organizations until about 2015. We strongly recommend purchasing a helmet in-store instead of online, as proper sizing and fit is very important and you really need to try the helmet on.
Snell stickers look like this (see http://www.smf.org/cert for additional information):
Please review the Car Control Clinic Overview. The Car Control Clinic or equivalent experience is a prerequisite, so please be sure you are familiar with the information in the overview. Please read before registering. Please also see the FAQs.
The CCC overview forms (tech inspection and waivers), glossary and FAQ are directly applicable to the Advanced CCC. The exercises will be different, but a review of the content is appropriate, as the exercises will include many of the same elements -- perhaps in more complicated configurations. The schedule and the exercise specifics will be different. Additional required reading will be distributed to registered students prior to the event. This material will cover the schedule, the exercises, along with important background information on vehicle dynamics and driving techniques.
