NCC BMW Time Trials Event Feeler

BMW CCA - National Capital Chapter - Driving Schools

Nov 14, 2019 - Dec 7, 2019

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have the opportunity to offer Time Trials for our instructors and advanced/solo students during the October 2020 HPDE on the Main Circuit.  The Time Trials would take the place of the A Run Group and consist of 4 sessions offered both Saturday and Sunday.  Each day, participants could expect a warm-up, qualifying, and 2 timed sessions. Participants would drive their normal “track” car without having to install racing equipment or prepare their car beyond what is required for an HPDE.  We will provide each driver/car with a transponder to record your lap times.

The Time Trial Run Group would nominally be divided into 4 different classes based on combination of horsepower to weight ratio and/or car modifications.  Each class would receive an award for the best lap time over the two days.

The cost of the Time Trial would be approximately $25 over what we currently charge for an HPDE. This is to cover the transponders, hotel for the Timing & Scoring Steward, and awards.  We are also looking at a special rate for instructors who are willing to instruct as well as participate in the Time Trials.  This cost would be determined at a later date, based on participation and scheduling requirements.

While Time Trial sessions are timed--they are not a race!  Wheel-to-wheel racing is not permitted, and all passes require a point-by.  The attraction of Time Trials is that you get to see how good of a driver you really are, and get a glimpse of what it feels like to go racing without all of the expense, and in a much more controlled environment!

In order to make our first Time Trial viable option, we need at least 25 advanced students and/or instructors to fill a run group.  Please note:  If you are an advanced student, but have not been signed off to run solo with NCC, register for one of our Friday Instructor academy days, and we will get you signed off.  If you think you would like to participate in a Time Trial at Summit Point next October, please complete the following survey by  December 7th (we need to get this event on BMW CCA’s schedule before the end of the year).  If you have questions about this email or Time Trials in general, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or phone.   Thank you for your support and participation over the last few years!
