ACNW HPDE Run Group Assignments
Audi Club NA - Northwest Chapter
Feb 13, 2017 - Feb 26, 2017

Hello Audi Club Northwest HPDE drivers!

We are continually looking at how to improve our High-Performance Driving Education (HPDE) events and would appreciate your input on the topic of run group assignments. This survey should be taken only if you have previously driven at an Audi Club Northwest HPDE.

It currently works like this: We assign drivers to White, Green, Yellow, or Red run groups based on a combination of driver skill, vehicle performance and event history to put them with others of similar pace into the same run group. The driver’s sign-off level is a starting point for this determination, but it’s not the only factor. Typically, the drivers/cars with the fastest overall pace will be in the White run group. Drivers/cars with lesser pace (usually new drivers and non-solo students) will be placed in the Red (or Yellow) run group. We’ve used this method because we believe it provides the best experience for everyone; by keeping the overall pace and flow of a run group closer while minimizing congestion and held-up cars. This method also allows us to load balance the number of drivers across run groups to keep the run group sizes as low as possible. This method can cause some frustration because a driver won’t always be placed in the same run group, and the determination of “pace" is somewhat subjective.

The most common alternative approach for run group assignment is sign-off level based. Essentially if your sign-off level is Advanced, you would be in the Advanced run group. If it’s Intermediate, then you would be placed in the Intermediate run group. No accommodation to vehicle performance or capability nor relative pace is made. Note that depending on the event, some sign-off levels might be combined into the same run group. One downside to this approach is that some run groups may be completely full and others relatively empty for a given event. In addition, if your prescribed run group fills to capacity for a given event before you register, you would either not be able to attend that event or you would be given the option to move to a lower run group based on sign-off level.

The following survey should take between 3-5 minutes. Thank you for your input!
