2020 Shasta AutoX Challenge Series

Autocross is a timed competition in which drivers navigate one at a time through a defined course. It is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe competition and active participation – entrants compete against the clock and also help to keep the event safe for everyone attending.

The Trinity Touring Club has been established for over 35 years, and started off in Trinity County, racing in the lumberyards of Weaverville.  The club is now based in Redding, Ca. and is a registered 501(c)(7) non-profit.  We host autocross racing events for our 40+ members and our non-member guests and have monthly meetings to manage the club’s affairs.  We are not affiliated with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).

Where is the race?  We race in the pit area of the Shasta Speedway in Anderson, CA.  Take Lassen Way  (also may be shown as ‘Gary Cressey Blvd’) off of Southbound Hwy 273, enter through the yellow gate and turn into the pit area just before the blue and white building.

When is the race?  See the Schedule page for Race Dates

  • Gates open at 7:30am on Race Day with Driver’s Meeting at 9am
  • 4 Run Groups with a break for lunch between groups 2 & 3  (Note:  we are trying out 3 Run Groups for the September 12th & 13th races, with a short break after Group 2)
  • Event concludes around 4pm with awards and track clean up

What does it cost to race?  Race day entry fee is $37 for Non-Members, $32 for TTC  (or affiliated) Club Members.

How do I register?  Race entries are managed online through https://www.motorsportsreg.com  Registration is open approximately 10 days prior to the event.  You will need your valid Driver's License to present at check-in.  Additional instructions will be provided via email to those who have signed up.

Who can race?  Any licensed driver 16 or over.  All that is required is to register for the event, sign the liability waiver, use a helmet (2005 or newer MA or SA rated, and drive a safe vehicle.  If you’re under 18, you’ll need a parent's signature and they must be present. Passengers are allowed and must also use an approved helmet.  Helmets are not currently available to rent – you must bring your own helmet.

What kind of vehicle can race?  Most any car can race.   All require a safety inspection for basic items like working seat belts, good tires, secure battery, etc.  We generally follow SCCA guidelines for car classes and will help answer questions about classing your entry.  Novice drivers are classed as a group, so if this is your first or second time autocrossing, you can race against competitors of similar skill level.  Sorry, no motorcycles are allowed.  Vehicles with a high center of gravity (4×4 trucks or SUVs) are not allowed.  Karts are allowed but rare in our club – the racing surface is quite rough with several dips, which tend to be make driving a fast kart a handful.  We have a low powered kart available for children.  Please talk to a club member if you plan to race a kart or have a child that would like to try our go kart.

What do you mean by ‘active participation’?  As these events are staffed entirely by volunteers, we need your help to keep things running smoothly and keep the competition safe for everyone.  If you race, you are expected to work one of the safety stations around the course, help with timing / scoring, and help with setup and break down of the facility.  A TTC member will direct you to what needs doing, and we will review work assignments as part of the driver’s meeting before the event.

How can I watch an event?  Spectators are not allowed inside the facility, but may watch from the grass lot to the West of the racing surface.  The spectator viewing area is along the Western fence, in the parking area.  Do Not enter the facility unless you are a registered driver, passenger, or TTC event staff.  Bring a chair, some shade (plenty of room for EZ Up), some cold water, and stay a while!

How do I become a Club Member?  You can sign up for an annual membership on https://motorsportsreg.com.  Membership gives you the ability to compete for season awards, get $5 off the race day registration fee, participate in club meetings, and get a rad T-shirt at the start of the regular season.
