HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVER SCHOOL
SPRING MOUNTAIN MOTORSPORTS RANCH

Friday, April 7, 2017 - Sunday, April 9, 2017

What's New?

  • Andretti configuration - Audi Club has received permission to use the longer "Andretti B" course configuration - all the turns you know and love from previous year's Mansell B configuration, with an engaging 1/2 mile of S-turns and a Bowl added to the infield section.

Watch a lap here: https://youtu.be/7drLH14W0ck The new portion is from 1:20 - 2:00.

  • Friday Advanced Drivers Day - Our Advanced Driver Day on Friday last year was very popular, so this year we are taking it to another level by running the full course. Do you like the Mansell, Andretti, or Fittipaldi course? Vote for your choice when you register! This is a lapping day for our advanced drivers - no formal instruction is provided.
  • New Headquarters Hotel- The Best Western Pahrump Oasis is our new headquarters hotel. Reserve your room early to insure a spot. (No more smoky Saddle West!)
  • New Banquet Venue- The Saturday evening reception and banquet will be held in the clubhouse at the Mountain Falls Golf Club, a ten minute drive from the track. (No more smoky Saddle West!)
  • New! Skid Pad for all Drivers - The skid pad will be open Saturday afternoon for all drivers. Spend a few minutes between sessions on the Figure-8 course. This exercise is a great way to practice car control in a safe environment. It requires good vision skills, allows you to discover how your car handles at the limit, and practice recovery techniques. It's a lot of fun!
  • UPDATE 3/3/2017 to Exclusive Use: As of March 3rd, Spring Mountain and Audi Club have been unable to agree on terms for exclusive use by our event. As in the past, Spring Mountain Members will be allowed to join some of our advanced/instructor run groups. Audi Club has no control over this decision by Spring Mountain and we sincerely apologize for the change in plans.  Exclusive Track Use - Audi Club expects to have exclusive use of the track on the weekend. Exclusive use is very expensive, so we MUST receive enough registrations.

Event Description

This is not a race or even a racing school, but rather an event where the primary focus is SAFETY, FUN, and LEARNING. You will improve your own personal performance behind the wheel.

You will be learning and practicing the principles and art of high speed, precision driving in a fun, relaxed, and organized school setting. The event is conducted at a race track under close supervision by experienced and trained Audi Club instructors. You will learn techniques for handling and controlling your own vehicle. This training is designed so you may safely explore your capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle. It will help prepare you for emergencies that may occur in normal driving situations.

At no time will you be pushed or encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable for you. All participants will be provided with instruction and organized into run groups in accordance with prior experience, demonstrated skill, and type of vehicle. This is for your safety and will enhance your learning by providing an opportunity to share the day's experiences with your peers.

Additional Information

Friday Advanced Driver Day: NEW! We will be lapping the full course on Friday! Open to all Audi Club instructors, and student drivers who have previously been approved to drive solo at an Audi Club driving school. If you believe your experience at other clubs might qualify you, please see the Experienced Driver section, below.

Passing Protocol: Passing in all run groups will be by Point-by on either side. Passing will only occur in designated passing zones. The car being passed is expected to drive their normal line, therefore the passing car should plan on driving off-line to complete the pass. Off Line typically means toward the side of the upcoming turn. Passing zones are designated with a green cone at the start of the passing zone and a yellow cone at the end of the passing zone. All passes must be complete before the end of the passing zone. No late passing into the corners ("dive bombing"). There will be a minimum of four passing Zones for all Run Groups.
