HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVER SCHOOL
AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY - THE ROVAL

Friday, September 22, 2017

Audi Club SoCal's
One-Day High Performance Driving
SchoolSeries
Sponsored by Walter's Audi of Riverside
In association with Hooked on Driving

DETAILS and REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

What's New?

  • Walter's Audi Sponsorship & Support - Walter's Audi of Riverside, is the title sponsor for the Audi Club one-day driving school series at the Roval. Walter's Audi's help with this one-day driving school series includes:
    - offering discounted pre-event safety inspections for attendees.
    - their factory-trained technician will be present at the event to teach us about our cars and help with diagnosis if needed.
  • Convertibles - Audi Club is now allowing many models of modern convertible cars equipped with OEM roll-over protection at our driving schools.
  • SUV/CUV - Audi Club is now allowing some models of small SUV/CUV.
  • Auto Club Speedway - Audi Club members have frequently asked us to hold a High Performance Driving School at conveniently-located Auto Club Speedway, but the high cost of renting a NASCAR facility has kept us away - until now! Audi Club SoCal is partnering with Hooked on Driving to bring you this joint event.
  • Hooked on Driving - HOD rents the track and has invited Audi Club's High Performance Driving School to join them. HOD's registration process and procedures apply for the track-day part of the event, and our beginners and novices will attend HOD's excellent classroom. As always at an Audi Club Driving School, in-car instruction will be provided by Audi Club instructors.
  • The ROVAL - Auto Club Speedway is a BLAST to drive! The Sports Car Course is known as the ROVAL because it Roval (Sports Car Course) Mapuses the interior Road course, consisting of a series of progressively long straights with challenging transitions, then connects through a series of turns known as the 'playground' to the main straight and Turns One and Two of the world-class medium-banked OVAL - giving the flavor of the banking without the huge speed that would come with driving the entire oval. This is a lifetime driving experience that is unique to any other track this side of Daytona. You don't want to miss it!

Event Description

This is not a race or even a racing school, but rather an event where the primary focus is SAFETY, FUN, and LEARNING. You will improve your own personal performance behind the wheel.

You will be learning and practicing the principles and art of high speed, precision driving in a fun, relaxed, and organized school setting. The event is conducted at a race track under close supervision by experienced and trained Audi Club instructors. You will learn techniques for handling and controlling your own vehicle. This training is designed so you may safely explore your capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle. It will help prepare you for emergencies that may occur in normal driving situations.

At no time will you be pushed or encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable for you. All participants will be provided with instruction and organized into run groups in accordance with prior experience, demonstrated skill, and type of vehicle. This is for your safety and will enhance your learning by providing an opportunity to share the day's experiences with your peers.

Additional Information

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I sign up with Audi Club instead of directly with Hooked on Driving? The price is the same.
Audi Club SoCal runs a full driving school and provides instruction at all skill levels, both in-car and driving theory, using Audi Club's own trained instructors. Actually, the Audi Club program is quite a bit less expensive for first-timers and for many others. HOD charges $50 extra for first-timers because they must pay their coaches. Also, Team HOD membership at $49 is required if this is your first HOD event of the year, but is waived if you are registering with Audi Club. Save up to $99 by enrolling in the Audi Club school! If you have attended one of our driving schools at Buttonwillow, Spring Mountain, or Willow Springs you already know that Audi Club SoCal runs a very high-quality program.

Why are you partnering with Hooked on Driving and what is their program like? We have joined forces with Hooked on Driving because they run an outstanding HPDE program which is very compatible with the "Audi Club way". One difference is that HOD's classroom and coaches are really only for first-time beginners - although second timers can request a coach, the advanced students are on their own. Audi Club, however, continues to provide in-car instruction for everyone. The bottom line is - we like HOD! Audi Club instructors frequently attend Hooked on Driving track days when they just want track time, because HOD runs a safe, controlled program with limited run group size (unlike some other track-day providers) and a number of Audi Club instructors also work as coaches for HOD.

Run Groups: When you enroll on the Hooked on Driving website, you will be provided with the opportunity to choose your own run group. To help you decide on an appropriate group, we have provided a description of the HOD run groups and how they compare to the familiar Audi Club run groups. Find it on our website at www.audiclubsocal.org/page/drivingschool,

Passing Protocol: Passing in all run groups is by Point-By on either side. Passing will only occur in designated passing zones. Very Important: the car being passed is expected to drive their normal line, therefore the passing car shall move off-line to complete the pass. Off-Line typically means toward the side of the upcoming turn (although this can vary depending on the course layout). HOD's passing zones are usually designated with a green cone at the start of the passing zone and a yellow cone at the end of the passing zone. All passes must be complete before the end of the passing zone. No late passing into the corners ("dive bombing") is permitted. Violators of these policies will be black-flagged by Auto Club Speedway track workers and lose track time.

First Timer? If this is your first time at an Audi Club driving school, Welcome! A general introduction to Audi Club SoCal driver schools is available on our website at www.audiclubsocal.org/page/drivingschool.

Experienced Driver? Are you an experienced driver but registering with Audi Club SoCal for the first time? Please make sure your driving history in your MotorsportReg.com Profile is up to date. This will help us place you with an appropriate instructor. Note that some advanced drivers may be pre-soled at this event. Do you have questions about your qualifications? Please contact Alex Whitney, our Chief Driving Instructor, at cdi@audiclubsocal.org

CaliPhotography logoPhotos: Professional photographer CaliPhotography.com will be present taking photos of your car on track. Visit their website to view and purchase photos of the event.

Garages: Rent a day-garage for $50. Follow the instructions provided by HOD during the second step of the registration process.

HPDE Insurance: Does my regular insurance policy cover me at this event? This article tells you how to find out: A guide to your personal auto policy. If you find your regular policy excludes coverage, you may purchase special HPDE insurance for your car while participating in this joint Audi Club / HOD driving school. Both Hooked on Driving and Audi Club have exemplary safety records which qualify our drivers for a nice discount. Visit the Audi Club page on LocktonMotorsports.com for details. Find this event by searching on the date and track to purchase your policy online.

>> REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT <<: Because this is a joint event with Hooked on Driving, the two-step registration process is a little different than other Audi Club events. First, you will register with us for our driving school. Then you will visit the Hooked on Driving website to enroll and pay for the track day.

Complete the driving school registration process with Audi Club here on MotorsportReg.com. When you complete check-out your account will not be charged (unless you have rented a helmet). You will receive a confirmation with a link to the private Audi Club page on HookedOnDriving.com where you will register and pay for the track day. You must use the dedicated Audi Club page on the HOD website to get the special Audi Club pricing!

Again, your registration will not be complete until you enroll in the track day and pay your fee on Hooked on Driving using the Audi Club page using the private link we provide.
