Students And Instructors

  • This event is open to any driver 18 and over with a valid US-issued driver's license and with any make of car.
  • Requirements for participation in a convertible car are based on BMW CCA Guidelines.  Regrettably, convertibles are not allowed to participate in this event unless they have an acceptable roll bar, 5 or 6 point harnesses, pass the broomstick test, sign a special waiver and we have an instructor who will ride with you among other requirements.  The specific rules can be found at www.bmwcca.org under the BMW CCA tab under Operations Manual. Contact the registrar for approval before registering.
  • All cars must be tech inspected and Tech Sheet completed prior to registration. It is your responsibility to ensure that your car is safe. Our Tech Inspection Form must be signed, dated and stamped by your chosen shop and separately signed by you.
  • A Snell-rated helmet (with sticker) is mandatory! SA rated SNELL '00 or newer helmets are allowed.
  • Equal restraints are required for driver and passenger. This applies to student cars and instructor cars.
  • Long sleeve shirts and long pants made of natural fibers are required.
  • All cars must have front passenger seat. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • The event will be held rain or shine. However, the club may cancel or close down the event if the track or weather conditions pose an inordinate safety concern for the participants. The decision is that of the Chief Instructor and Event Coordinator.
  • The nearest hotels are located in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  The headquarters hotel is the Sleep Inn, 101 Hampton Blvd. Roanoke Rapids, NC, 27870.  Phone 252-537-3141.  The negotiated group rate is $69 plus taxes.  Be sure to request the Tidewater BMW Car Club negotiated rate.  Further information on the area is available through http://visithalifax.com/index.php.
  • Please bring your license with you to registration.
  • All participants must place numbers at least 8 inches high on each side of their car in a bright, easy to read contrasting color.  Shoe polish on windows, although a less preferred method, is permitted, but the color must be bright and visible.  Blue painters tape is acceptable, but must be visible (light green painters tape is also available for darker cars).
  • All participants, staff, and guests must sign the event insurance waiver at track registration.  Everyone will also be required to sign the track's waiver at the main entrance when they arrive. Note that signing the waiver enrolls you in the Liability Insurance protection purchased for this event.

Insurance

Event insurance does not cover damage to your vehicle or the vehicles of others or damage to the NCCAR facility.  The event insurance is for LIABILITY.   As a participant who has signed the waiver are covered for liability ensuing from your participation in this event.  You must understand that you are not protected by this policy for collision or property damage.

Your automobile insurance may or may not cover damage to your vehicle or the property of others.  If you are unsure check with your insurer.  Hint: Do not ask your Car Insurance Agent if you are covered during a driver school on a track; rather ask for all exclusions in writing. This is a gentleman's sport.  You are responsible for your vehicle and that of anyone else involved with you in a collision at the event.  Private insurance policies may not cover at a "racing surface" based school.  READ your exclusions.  If your coverage does not cover these events you may assume the risk of damage or buy a supplemental policy that covers at least some of these risks.  One example of such coverage is available from Locton Affinity ( https://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/Coverage.aspx?pID=2076).   Another is Great American Insurance Group www.ontrackinsurance.com .  Always read the coverages and exclusions of any policy you purchase.

Instructors

  • A working communicator is essential for good communication. In the case of medical reasons why you can't use the ear pieces, use the microphone; your student can wear the earpieces. He/she can hear you, you can't hear him over the intercom.  Not ideal, but better than shouting.
  • All cars must have front passenger seat without exception.  Your commitment to instructing may involve taking your student out in your car to demonstrate the skills that you are trying to impart.  Note that this demonstration is done at the STUDENT'S LEVEL.
  • Instructor Registration is Friday evening at the track.  The arm band is placed on your arm at registration by our staff when you sign the waiver, and is your pass through the track's entrance gates. This facilitates track access in the mornings. The armband is required for entrance onto the track.
  • Thank you for supporting Tidewater Chapter HPDE. Your help is essential and very much appreciated.
