HPDE VS. Lap Attack

Our High-Performance Driving Education or "HPDE" events are for those looking to learn the fundamentals of driving on a real race track. We make sure to instill fundamental safety skills as we put you on track with a personal instructor and supplement your education with classroom instruction in between your track time.

Our Competition series is for those who are solo certified to drive on track without instruction, as they have put 20+ days in a true HPDE setting and understand how to safely be on track with others at the limit of their cars' ability.

LAP ATTACK CLASSING:

• Coupe – 1990 and newer 3400-pound minimum weight 2WD, 4-seater coupes/sedans and late model trucks (example – 5th & 6th Gen Camaro, BMW M3/M5, late model Mustang)
• Sport (Sports car) – 1990 and newer 3000-pound minimum weight, factory production two-seater autos and any all-wheel drive vehicles (example – C5/C6/C7C8 Corvette, Mitsubishi Evo, Nissan GTR, Dodge Viper).
• Vintage – 1989 and older 3200-pound minimum weight rear wheel drive (example – 1967 Mustang, 1987 Monte Carlo, 1974 Pontiac Firebird)
• Compact (compact/sport compact) – Naturally aspirated or forced induction 4 cylinder or 2 rotary engines, FWD or RWD, front engine mount with max 107” wheelbase. Certain pre-1990 4- and 6-cylinder vehicles (like Porsche) may run in this class. All vehicles in this class must weigh, at a minimum, 95% of the factory published curb weight. Drivers are responsible for providing documentation. (example – Mazda Miata/MX5, Dodge Neon/SRT 4, Honda Civic/S2000, Toyota FRS) Vehicles in the Compact class that are not at least 95% of factory published curb weight may be moved to the Unlimited class provided they meet the minimum weight requirements for that class.
• EV (electric vehicles) – Performance cars designated from the manufacturer as EV, must be pure electric, no hybrids, no conversions, or fossil fuels of any kind. (example - Tesla, BMW i3, Volkswagen EGolf, Porsche Taycan). This class is not intended for urban economy vehicles like the Leaf or Smart cars. All vehicles in this class must weigh, at a minimum, 95% of the factory published curb weight. Any aftermarket changes or modifications to the factory battery pack or electric motor is prohibited.
• Lightweight – ALL VEHICLES UNDER 3000 POUNDS – all vehicles participating in the Lightweight class must weigh, at a minimum, 95% of the factory published curb weight, and all vehicles in this class must weigh less than 3000 pounds. Vehicles over 3000 pounds must run in their designated class. Drivers are responsible for providing documentation. Example, if your car weighed 3000 pounds from the factory, it must weigh at least 2850 pounds to compete legally. Vehicles in the Lightweight class that are not at least 95% of factory published curb weight may be moved to the Unlimited class provided they meet the minimum weight requirements for that class.
•Unlimited – The Unlimited class is designed for those high-performance cars that do not meet the requirements of the other series classes. Vehicles that meet other class categories will not be allowed to run in the Unlimited class.

Basic requirements include:
 - Licensed drivers aged 16 and up (under 18? parent or guardian must accompany you)
 - Helmet, rated Snell 2015 or better (you can rent one from us if you do not have one)

 - Your track-worthy passenger car (such as sedan, coupe, station wagon, etc.) No SUVS, no pick-ups, no vans permitted
 - Advanced/Intermediate drivers welcome to bring their track cars. before each event, drivers will need to perform a Tech Inspection on their car. This is required before each and every event, even if you just looked at your car last week or last month. This is for the safety of our instructors, your fellow drivers, and most of all - for you. This inspection can be done by you, your friends, or any qualified mechanic. Note that in-car fire extinguisher is no longer required.

BYOC (Bring Your Own Car) allows individuals to use their own cars for high performance driving school at the MotorSport Ranch. Our BYOC program caters to many drivers - beginner to advanced. We provide three separate levels grouped by experience, each with their own curriculum - Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. Our single day program provides classroom instruction sessions along with up to 2 hours of track time. Track sessions are spread throughout the day so you can learn in the classroom and then practice what you've learned on the track. The learning is progressive, so by the end of the track event you will have come a long way!

The Novice program is for drivers who are new to driving on a racing circuit, or only have one or two previous events. The program includes classroom instruction throughout the day, on-track drills to help you learn some basic skills before you drive at speed, in-car instruction, and of course several sessions at speed.

The Intermediate program is tailored towards drivers who have mastered the basics, and includes classroom instruction throughout the day with helpful feedback on techniques and driving lines, as well as in-car instruction and driver evaluation.

The Advanced group is for experienced drivers. In-car instruction is still available and encouraged, and classroom time is more specific, with the focus on fine tuning of skills using advanced techniques.

The BYOC program runs rain or shine, and driving on a wet track is one of the most beneficial exercises to help advance your driving skills at any experience level.
