Welcome to Wichita Region SCCA!
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THIS EVENT: Due to unresolved safety concerns, all participants at this event will be required to have closed cabin vehicles. This does not exclude convertibles, however they must have a functioning soft top that can be securely latched during runs. Drivers must be able to drive their convertibles with the top up and latched while wearing a helmet. For more information, please see the bottom of this page.
WE ARE NOW RUNNING HEATS ASSIGNED BY CLASS AS SHOWN IN THIS TABLE:
Not sure what class you're in? Send us an email or visit http://facebook.com/wichitaregion.scca and send us a message. Or you can search for your car in this list from SCCA. If you're still unsure or just want to come out and have fun, register for one of our open classes, Street Tire Open or STO4, STO6, and STO8. The 4, 6, and 8 refer to cylinder counts, but we ask that turbocharged or supercharged cars go to the next higher class. So for example, if you have a Ford Focus ST you would register in STO6.

How does this work? When you register you simply tell us your class. Your class tells you which run group you are a member of (see the table above), and then run groups will be assigned to either Heat 1 or Heat 2. Run Groups will alternate heats at each event. An email will be sent to all registered participants on the Saturday before each event to inform them of which heat each group will run.
For this event Run Group A will run Heat 1 and work Heat 2. Run Group B will run Heat 2 and work Heat 1.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT RE SUNDAY’S AUTOCROSS!
Due to unresolved safety concerns we will require all drivers at this Sunday’s autocross to have enclosed cabin vehicles. To elaborate, convertibles will be welcome so long as you have at least a soft top, closed and latched, with your helmet on inside. Anything with a hardtop is allowed as well. Examples of restricted vehicles are karts, open cockpit mod cars, and any roadster whose soft top cannot be securely latched.
For more information please continue reading below.
Shortly prior to this year's autocross season, the national office of the SCCA established new rules for safety mostly targeted at junior karts. These rules led Wichita Region leadership to reconsider the safety of the two wire fence along the west edge of our runway. At the time of the test and tune, we had discussed a plan for improving the safety of this hazard and felt that we could hold the event with increased distances to the fence.
However, we witnessed a convertible car strike the fence. Though there were no injuries and no damage to the car, the incident resulted in the top wire of the fence resting on the soft top that was fortunately up at the time. Had the cabin not been enclosed, the driver may have been injured by the wire catching his head or neck.
While we feel confident that the wire only poses a risk in extreme situations, we feel it is our responsibility to protect our drivers in these extremes. As a result, we have decided to limit participation to protected vehicles until we can implement a safety improvement for the fence.
Members of the club leadership will be working this week to test an idea to reinforce the fence with a more solid barrier. Once we have verified the feasibility of our solution, we will install it along the entire length of the runway and resume running events as normal. We expect to have a solution in place before the second points event on April 29th.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to work hard at making our events as safe as they are fun. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope to see a good group of autocrossers attend this Sunday prepared to address the limited restrictions in place. In addition to requiring enclosed cabins, we will be extra vigilant to design this week's course to minimize the likelihood of drivers going off course on the west side.
