What should I expect at a PDX event?

First you would make sure that you and your car qualify for a PDX event. You must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver license. Convertibles, unless they are equipped with a hard top or an approved roll bar/hoop, are not allowed. Vehicles with other removable tops (t-tops, targa tops, etc.) must meet appropriate safety regulations. Be sure to check this link to Level 1 PDX Rules. Next, register by continuing on through the MotorsportReg process.

For this event, plan on getting to the track by 7:00 AM. Once you arrive at the track, you will check in, park, unload your vehicle, and prepare it for the track. Next you will need to get your car inspected, and then report to the classroom for a drivers briefing. Once that briefing is over, usually no more than 30 minutes time, the rest of the event should be spent behind the wheel of your car, or riding along with your instructor to gain a better understanding of the track, the proper line, and driving tips. These tips are provided by qualified instructors, most of whom have years of actual racing experience.

Be safe and have fun!!

Please Note:

All PDX drivers may be required to work a flag station during one or more sessions when their run group is not on course as directed by the PDX Chief Steward or PDX Safety Steward.

E. Vehicles: ALL VEHICLES MUST PASS A TECHNICAL INSPECTION ON THE FOLLOWING ITEMS PRIOR TO BEING ALLOWED ON THE TRACK.

  1. Vehicles must be eligible for street licensure. Otherwise, if the vehicle is not eligible for street licensure, then it must be eligible for one of the following GCR categories: Showroom Stock, Touring, Improved Touring, Spec Miata; or it must be eligible for one of the following SOLO categories: Stock, Street Prepared, Street Touring, or Street Modified.
  2. Required vehicle safety equipment:

i) A restraint system meeting federal standards for the year of manufacture of the vehicle in each of the front seating positions. At a minimum, a two-point system must be in place. Competition-style multi-point harness systems are highly recommended.

ii) Suitable and safely mounted driver and passenger seats. Passenger seat requirement may be exempted by chief steward.

iii) Any seat used by a passenger must have the same safety equipment as that of the driver.

For the purposes of this determination only, “street legal” will be defined as a car which meets local requirements for inspection (if applicable) and the car in question must possess CURRENT, VALID registration. If this street legal requirement is not met, then the roll bar requirement as stated in this section shall apply to convertibles and targas. Contact chief of tech, safety steward, or event chairman for additional clarification.

viii) All cars must run with both front door windows fully lowered.

ix) Open cars (convertibles and targas) meeting roll bar safety requirements per E.2.vii must run with the top removed or lowered and safely stowed.

  2. Any car that is judged to be in an unsafe operating condition at any time during the event shall be prohibited from further participation until the deficiency is corrected and re-inspected by tech inspection personnel.
  3. Vehicle numbering: number decals for each participating vehicle will be issued during tech inspection. Number placement location on vehicle will be determined prior to event date.

  5. Any driver who spins or leaves the course with all four wheels off course must immediately return to the pits and may not return to the course until authorized by an instructor. A vehicle re-inspection by the Chief Technical Inspector may also be required prior to returning to the course.
