Winter Driving School #4

Capital City Speedway

About this event

Winter Driving School #4

The Motorsport Club of Ottawa offers a superb opportunity to learn the basics of winter driving techniques.  Students learn in their own car, van or pickup truck through a combination of in-car instruction and exercises during a full day at our closed course, purpose built Winter Driving facility at Capital City Speedway. Each skill is explained first in the classroom and then the students take to our slippery track with an in-car instructor to practise that skill. Then it’s back to the classroom to learn the next skill. The day alternates between the classroom and the track until all the winter driving skills have been covered.  The skills are taught in a logical, progressive order so that students build ability and confidence.  The course provides lots of track time to practise the skills you learn. NEW for 2016 the school includes a catered lunch.

An Opportunity...

  • To learn car control in snowy and icy conditions
  • To gain confidence in winter driving conditions
  • To learn effective skid control, stopping and collision avoidance techniques

The school is held based on demand (course requires at least 16 students), and is dependant on track and weather conditions provided by Mother Nature. Courses are held in January and February of each winter. The school is open to everyone who holds a valid driver's license at any level (for instance G1, G2 or G in Ontario) or an International Driver's License.

Course Outline:

The school is a full day school. Students are expected to arrive around 8:00am, as the school starts at 8:30 sharp. Coffee is available in the morning.  The school runs all day, and is usually completed by 4:00pm. A one hour lunch break is held at close to 12:00 noon.  All students and volunteers receive a catered lunch. The school costs $295 + HST; Students, Seniors and MCO Members $275 + HST and includes lunch.
