Welcome to the Motor City Chapter BMWCCA!

Join us for our annual one-day high performance
driver's education (HPDE) event at Waterford Hills.
Conveniently located in metro Detroit, Waterford Hills offers
an invigorating driving experience for novice and expert alike.

This year, the event will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020.
What better way to start a summer weekend?

2020 marks our 16th consecutive year at Waterford Hills.
 

 

COVID-19 Changes *PLEASE READ*

Due to COVID-19, the following run group changes will be in effect:

  1. There will be 3 run groups:
    1. Instructor, Solo and Advanced
    2. Intermediate
    3. Taste of the Track (3 sessions in the afternoon)
  2. The intermediate group will have instructors at corner stations observing the session, and these instructors will “de-brief” students after each session.
    1. To qualify as an intermediate student, you must speak to and be approved by the chief instructor.
  3. *NEW* Taste of the Track sessions are being provided in place of the novice student group.  This is an excellent opportunity for people who want to experience the track, but at lower speeds.
    1. Controlled lap speeds with no helmets required
    2. No tech inspections are required for this group, however, standard rules on vehicle type apply
    3. Consists of an intro to the track and “classroom” instruction.

  • Location: Waterford Hills in Clarkston, MI
    Situated on the grounds of the Oakland County Sportmen's Club,
    between I-75 and Dixie Highway (US 24)
     
  • Event Type: High Performance Drivers Education (HPDE)
    This is a non-timed, non-competitive driving event.
    Participants safely learn and develop (a) high performance driving
    technique, (b) driving line at Waterford Hills, and (c) situational awareness
    through on-track and classroom experiences. 
     
  • Driving Groups: Participants will be organized into groups (Intermediate, Advanced, and SOLO) based on experience.
  • Passing rules are more lenient for more experienced students.
    Our goal is to foster a safe and invigorating environment for everyone!
     
  • Amenities: Due to Covid-19, please bring your own food and water for the day.
    We’ll take a break for a lunch mid-day. Bring bottled water to keep yourself hydrated!
     
  • Drivers: Must be 18 years or older and carry a valid drivers license.
    A Snell SA or M-rated helmet (2010 or newer) is required.
     
  • Vehicles: Will need to undergo a pre-event technical inspection by a
    licensed mechanic.
  • This requirement is waived for TASTE OF THE TRACK participants
  • We cannot accommodate convertibles (soft or retractable hardtop), targa, or T-top vehicles.

Event requirements


Event requirements:

  • All drivers must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license.
  • All Vehicles must be titled and have a valid automobile insurance policy at the time of the event.

  • All vehicles must pass a pre-event technical inspection performed by a Licensed Mechanic.  This is to be completed by the student before the school.  NO on site technical inspections will be performed.  (Unless you're signing up for TASTE OF THE TRACK)

  • Snell SA2010, M2010 or newer helmets are required for all participants. (Unless you're signing up for TASTE OF THE TRACK)
  • No vans, minivans, trucks, or other such vehicles are permitted.
  • Your car must car have the same seats and restraints for both the driver and passenger. No exceptions!
  • Waterford’s local township ordinances noise levels require that all cars MUST have an operational commercially available muffler and that sound levels at the property line be kept below 75 dB.  Vehicles not meeting these requirements will be excluded from the event.
  • We cannot accommodate convertibles (soft or retractable hardtop), targa, or T-top vehicles. No exceptions!
