Turkeys in the Trunk / Frunk 2017

Checkered Flag and Euroclassics

About this event

The air is finally chilly, we’re raking leaves and there are Christmas Trees on display in Home Depot (okay... they've actually been there since before Halloween). It must be time for

Turkeys in the Trunk and Turkeys in the Frunk!!!

Please join us for a Saturday of fun and camaraderie at First Settlers Region's 8th annual Turkeys in the Trunk charity event at Checkered Flag Porsche in Virginia Beach or Shenandoah Region's annual Turkeys in the Frunk event at Euroclassics Porsche in Midlothian on 18 November 2017.

Note:  To register for either the Virginia Beach or Richmond event, hit the "Continue" button at the bottom of this page.  After a second "Continue" button on the next page, you will be taken to the registration page.  There, you will have a choice to sign up for either Turkeys in the Frunk in Richmond, or Turkeys in the Trunk in Virginia Beach.  Please check the box next to the event you'd like to attend and a dropdown menu will prompt you to sign up for each portion of that particular event (i.e. the dealership portion and the follow-on lunch/dinner).

This is a multi-region, multi-location event.  First Settlers and Shenandoah Regions will be joining forces to help our neighbors in need this Thanksgiving season.

In Virginia Beach,  we'll be supporting the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore in their effort to collect food for the Thanksgiving season at their Mayflower Marathon food drive, a weekend long effort to fill as many big rigs as possible with donated food for distribution to less fortunate local families.

In Richmond, we'll be supporting
the Greater Richmond Foodbank via "Feedmore", Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization dedicated to providing neighbors in need with healthy meals.  They'll have a freezer truck on site at Euroclassics Porsche to collect our donations.

Turkeys in the Trunk in Virginia Beach:  Load your front trunk, your back trunk, roof rack, passenger foot well.... wherever, with frozen turkeys, canned vegetables, yams, and the rest of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal.  Don’t forget to leave room for your spouse, but tell them to pack lightly!

Second, proceed to Checkered Flag Porsche, 2865 Virginia Beach Blvd for the start of the day. Pull into the service bay and our FSR crew will unload your donations, weight them, then reload them back into your car.  Whoever brings the most food, by weight, will win a Porsche logo prize donated by the dealership.  The weigh-in will be from 1:00 to 1:45PM.  Please don't arrive early, as their service department is open on Saturday until 1PM.

After the weigh-in, we’ll drive to Pembroke Mall, about 4 miles west along Virginia Beach Blvd, to offload our food donations at the Mayflower Marathon food drive.  The volunteers at the Marathon will be waiting for us with anticipation to offload the food.  Arrival of First Settlers is one of the highlights of the entire weekend for the Marathon.  There's no local car club that even comes close to our level of donations.  Next, the party will continue at Jenny and Jacob Kay's home in Suffolk.  We'll enjoy delicious food, beverages and hang out, courtesy of the club and Checkered Flag.  If you're making a monetary donation ,please make your check out to the Foodbank of Southeastern VA.

Turkeys in the Frunk in Richmond Load up your Frunk,
trunk passenger seat... whatever space you have, and head to Euroclassics Porsche in Midlothian (11900 Midlothian Turnpike) at 11:00AM.  Coffee and soft drinks will be provided.  We'll hang out, enjoy some PCA comradery and challenge our Porsche knowledge with a tech quiz, the winner of which will receive a prize.  After we've loaded our donations into the Foodbank's freezer truck at the dealership, we'll head across the street to Wegman’s Pub around 1PM for lunch, courtesy of Shenandoah and First Settlers.  Should you decide to make a monetary donation, please make your check out to "Feedmore".

The best part of these events is giving back to the community, driving our nice cars and finishing the day socializing with great friends!  Hope to see you there!

So hit the “Continue” button and sign up for a day of fun and charity!  You'll have the opportunity to sign up for either the Virginia Beach or Richmond event.

Please note:  The goal of this donation effort is to collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations.  Ideally, the food donated at the event can be turned into a fairly typical Thanksgiving meal for a person or family in need. The donated food is packed in boxes at the event by volunteers for distribution before Thanksgiving.  So, please consider this when you decide what to donate.  Cash donations are also accepted at this event and you should make your check out directly to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.  These are also presented at the Mayflower Marathon and reflected in FSR's total charity proceeds.

In the interest of fairness, the heavyweight competition in Virginia Beach will include some guidelines.  First of all, while other vehicles are welcomed, the food has to be loaded into a Porsche to compete.  We will have 2-door and 4-door categories for the heavyweight competition.  Also, the ‘judges’ will be looking for loose interpretations of the Marathon’s intent of collecting food for holiday meals - turkeys and the fixins’ are the goal; not low-volume/high weight bags of flour or cases of soda.
