About this event
Summer has finally retreated, hurricane season is past and Christmas decorations are on display at Wal-Mart (okay... they've actually been there since well before Halloween). It must be time for
Turkeys in the Trunk!!!
Please join us for a Saturday of fun and camaraderie at First Settlers Region's 12th annual Turkeys in the Trunk charity event at Checkered Flag Porsche in Virginia Beach or our joint Western Area event with Shenandoah Region at Euroclassics Porsche in Midlothian on 20 November 2021.
***Our friends in the Shenandoah Region are running registration for our Western Area event at Euroclassics. To register for the Western Area event at Euroclassics, click HERE.
This is a multi-region, multi-location event. First Settlers and Shenandoah Regions will be joining forces again to help our neighbors in need this Thanksgiving season. Please read on to register for the Eastern Area event at Checkered Flag.
In Virginia Beach, we'll be supporting the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore in their effort to collect food for the Thanksgiving season at their Mayflower Marathon food drive, a weekend long effort to fill as many big rigs as possible with donated food for distribution to less fortunate local families.
In Richmond, we'll be supporting the Greater Richmond Foodbank via "Feed More", Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization dedicated to providing neighbors in need with healthy meals. They'll have a freezer truck on site at Euroclassics Porsche to collect our donations. To register for the Western Area event at Euroclassics, click HERE.
Turkeys in the Trunk in Virginia Beach: Load your frunk, trunk, roof rack, passenger foot well.... wherever, with frozen turkeys, canned vegetables, yams, and the rest of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. Don’t forget to leave room for your passenger, but tell them to pack lightly!
Then head over to Checkered Flag Porsche, 2865 Virginia Beach Blvd for the start of the day. Pull into the service bay and our FSR crew will unload your donations, weigh them, then reload them back into your car. Whoever brings the most food, by weight, will win a Porsche prize donated by the dealership. The weigh-in will be from 1:00 to 1:45PM. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 1PM, as their service department is open on Saturday until 1PM.
We'll have a Drivers' Meeting promptly at 2PM where you'll receive driving instructions for a short fun run from the Mayflower Marathon to our final destination along with a Car Bingo game card. You may be wondering what Car Bingo is... You'll have to wait and see.
After the weigh-in, we’ll drive to Pembroke Mall to offload our food donations at the Mayflower Marathon food drive. Arrival of First Settlers is one of the highlights of the entire weekend for the Marathon. There is no local car club that even comes close to our level of donations. If you're making a monetary donation, please make your check out to the Foodbank of Southeastern VA. If you can't make it to the event, you can send a check to our Charity Coordinator, Josie Grandfield and we'll add it to the event total and include it in our presentation at the Marathon. Please contact Josie at firstname.lastname@example.org for mailing instructions.
After the Marathon drop-off, we'll proceed on a driving tour to Ruth and Erik Apotheker's home, where we'll enjoy a seasonal meal of salads, homemade soups and breads provided by our members. If you would like to share your culinary expertise with us and bring a soup and/or bread, please sign up on the following registration page. We'll manage the sign-ups so that we don't have six pots of Chicken Noodle or Broccoli Cheese soup. We anticipate needing 10-12 soups and 10 loaves of bread. Each pot of soup should feed at least 8 people. For those bringing soup or bread, we ask that you share the recipe in advance, as we'll be making a recipe booklet for everyone to take home after the event. We'll communicate specifics with our soup and bread chefs within the next couple of weeks.
Like all of our events, we can't do this without volunteers. If you'd like to help out with setup, parking, the sign-in table, or to work the weigh-in process at Checkered Flag, please sign-up for that on the following registration page. Show time to all these positions is 12PM at Checkered Flag. Thanks!
After our COVID-19 Turkeys event in 2020, we're looking forward to seeing everyone under better circumstances and we're thankful that Turkeys in the Trunk is back!
The best part of these events is giving back to the community, driving our favorite cars and finishing the day socializing with great friends! We hope to see you there!
So hit the “Continue” button and register for a day of fun and charity in Virginia Beach.
Please note: The goal of this donation effort is to collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations. Ideally, the food donated at the event can be turned into a fairly typical Thanksgiving meal for a person or family in need. The donated food is packed in boxes by volunteers for distribution before Thanksgiving. So, please consider this when you decide what to donate. Cash donations are also accepted at this event and you should make your check out directly to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. These donations are also reflected in FSR's and Shenandoah's total charity proceeds.
As we gather for this and upcoming FSR events and in light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we ask that you continue to observe CDC guidelines for your protection and that of your FSR friends.
