Student Skid Pad Day - July 13th, 2014

Summit Point - Main

About this event

Student Car Control Clinic - Sunday, July 13th, 2014 on the Main track Skid Pad!

This registration is for a car control clinic on the Summit Point Main track skid pad. We use the skid pad as a tool for developing car control skills. Particularly, we practice inducing, acknowledging and correcting understeer and oversteer. We'll transition from understeer into oversteer and ultimately learn to efectively manage a car in a constant state of oversteer with minimal input and complete control. Additionally we practice different accelleration, braking and cone drills. We run at least two cars on the skid pad at a time and sometimes three depending on the level of skill per driver.

These skid pad days are broken up into two sessions; 8am-noon and noon-4pm. Advanced drivers are encouraged to sign up for the pm session. Those with less-than-great car control skills are encouraged to sign up for the am session. The cost is $40 person.

Event requirements

Risk is minimal on the skid pad so no pre-event tech inspection is required. However, each driver is responsible for making certain his/her vehicle is safe and in proper functioning condition. The club holds no liability or responsibility for drivers' cars. Each driver is responsible for his or her own vehicle at all times including potential collision with other vehicles, curbs, berms, power boxes or anything else that might cause damage to a vehicle or BSR property.

High Performance Driving Instructors will be on hand to assist as needed but are not pre-assigned to registrants nor will drivers be required to have an instructor in their car on the skid pad.

  • these events are organized though operate on a much more flexible schedule than a full blown HPDE

  • the purpose of these events is to develop, work on, and perfect car control skills...and of course have fun

  • you do not need a helmet though they are recommended
  • dress appropriately for the weather and you might want to bring a lounge chair
