Season Opener 2014

New Hampshire Motor Speedway

About this event

It’s been a long snowy winter and you’ve spent too many nights on a cold damp garage floor getting everything just right. It is time to come out and play. North Country  Region (NCR) and NorthEast Region (NER) together are pleased to co-host this event for all PCA members. Together we will be holding a 2-day event with full DE activities.

Saturday is a special day as we will be hosting a function for our designated charity, Make A Wish Foundation (MAW).  Charity Laps entrants will have an hour of paced track time in their own cars.  The revenue from this activity as well the sales of T shirts all go to MAW.

There will be dinner at the Loudon Country club Saturday night, so, plan on an evening of bench racing, playing liar lap times and socializing with your track buds while enjoying the ample fare.

NHMS is our home track, and it is the site of many televised races, including Nextel Cup. What is not usually shown on TV is their 1.6 mile road course with 12 turns and some exciting elevation changes making for a good learning environment for Novices and a challenging and technical drive for our advanced drivers.

Event requirements

1 Please review the PCA Minimum Standards.
2 Participants must be at least 18 years of age, must have a valid driver’s license, and be a PCA member or affiliate. A current driver’s license and PCA membership card must be shown at registration.
3 Drivers must have completed registration and be through the tech line PRIOR to the driver’s and instructor’s meetings (by approximately 8:15 am).
4 Participants must wear rubber soled, natural uppers shoes, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt (natural, not synthetic fibers), or wear an approved fire resistant driving suit. Red or yellow clothing may not be worn at flagging stations.
5 A Snell 2005 or newer helmet is required. Limited loaners may be available. Belt/harness 5,6,7 point  systems no older than 5 years.
6 Pets are not allowed at Lime Rock, and strongly discouraged (must be leashed at all times) at NHMS.
7 Non-participants are not permitted in either student or instructor cars. Non-participants under the age of 18 are allowed only in spectator areas. Instructors riding in student cars and students riding in instructor cars for instructional purposes are permitted. No student may ride with another student.
8
A Pre-tech form completely filled out and signed by an approved PCA tech inspector in advance of the event is required of all participants. Use of the NCR form is strongly encouraged. The 2013 Tech form must be completed within two weeks prior to the event by an authorized PCA tech inspector.
A list of NCR inspectors and a copy of the Tech form can be found here.  The tech inspection is a free service to PCA members unless otherwise noted.
9 Fire extinguishers are mandatory for all run groups and must be securely fastened, metal to metal (minimum 2.5 pound, with two strap metal bracket recommended) within reach of the driver. This requirement is waived for first time participants for one event only.
10 Street tires must have a minimum tread depth of 2/32 completely around at least 2 grooves (excluding wear bars). R-rated tires and slicks must have visible tread indicators around the full circumference.
11 R-rated track tires are not allowed in green & yellow groups unless OEM fit or the car is also driven in an advanced run group. Chief instructor approval required.
12 Roll bars & cages: mandatory for all open cars & semi-open (Targas) without manufacturers structural or deploying rollover protection.Must meet Club Racing Standards. FIA or SFI arm restraints shall be used by each occupant.
13

All open top cars, Targas, 914s, Boxsters and 996/997 cabriolets are acceptable as delivered from the factory & must run with the top up or have a hardtop installed. If the top is down, not recommended,  see #12 above.

14 Lime Rock Park will enforce rules which require all open cars to have a roll bar that is fixed and visible at all times (not pop up) plus allows the driver to pass the “broomstick rule” (top of helmet under a line drawn from the top of the windshield to the top of the bar). View additional LRP Requirements here.
15 Most tracks will be enforcing sound limits at their tracks. You will be expelled from the event after your second offense during any given day. Lime Rock’s limit is 89 decibels and NHIS’s is 99 decibels (both are the same as 2012). Unmodified (stock street) cars should have no problems meeting the limits. (Due to differences in acoustics at each track the net sound level is essentially equivalent between NHMS and LRP.
16 Driver’s side windows must be fully down (rain or shine), passenger side optional (fully up or down). Window nets are not allowed.
17 Students should expect that their instructor will drive their car for several laps at each event.
18 Passengers (students in an instructor’s car or instructors in a student’s car) must have available, and wear, an equivalent restraint system (belts/harnesses and seats) to what is being worn by the driver.
19 All participants must obey all passing rules set forth in the driver’s meeting.
20 There is a mandatory Black Flag pit stop for all spins or 2 (or more) wheels-off. Two Black Flags for these or other driving infractions in a day are grounds for expulsion from the event. Flagging assignments must still be fulfilled.
21 No illegal drugs are allowed and no alcoholic beverages may be consumed by anyone (participant or guest) during the event.
22 NCR runs DE events in the rain and cold weather. No refunds for an event cancelled after cars have been on the track, or for participants who do not come to the track when an event is not started. Partial refunds may be available to those who come to the track when an event is not started/cancelled.
23 No timing devices are permitted in the Green and Yellow Run Groups.
