The Spring Floods that have sadly devastated a good portion of SW Iowa and NW Missouri (and a good deal of our Weston Trip route!) have forced us to change our plans for our first overnight tour of the Schonesland 2019 driving season.
Yes, it's true that we just drove the Loess Hills Scenic Byway last October-but I ask you-does it ever get boring?! Especially after our cars have been hibernating over this long cold winter, this will be a great way to "get yer motor runnin".
We have added a couple new features for this trip. First, we'll get to Western Iowa via the White Pole Road, rather than Hiway 44, which will take us to Council Bluffs. From there we'll enter the Loess Hills Scenic Byway and stop for lunch at the Twisted Tail in Beebeetown. Many of us have had lunch there on Sunday return trips from Sioux City and the food is excellent at this sports bar venue.
After lunch we'll drive up through Logan, IA and on up the trail to Sioux City where we'll spend the night at - you guessed it - the Stoney Creek Inn, just across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in downtown. We have reserved 12 rooms (8 double queens, 4 kings) under the "Schonesland Porsche Club" room block and have negotiated the rate down to $139 for the night.

Dinner has been reserved in the wine cellar at M's on 4th located in the Historic 4th Street District, with cocktails and appetizers at 6:00 and dinner at 7 PM. For those who have not experienced this evening, this is a party!
It's a four block walk to the restaurant where they have a stunning wine selection that is offered for dinner at store prices-without the usual restaurant mark-ups. We will have a number of menu items to choose from covering all the protein groups and a vegetarian dish or two as well.
Sunday morning breakfast will be on your own, either at the hotel or at a number of restaurants close by. Many choose to drive the Loess Hills Trail back to Central Iowa, but if you must get home earlier, I-29 to I-80 will get you to DSM in 2 hrs and 40 mins.
